Bird 11 - The Parrots' Symphony Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Bird 11 - The Parrots' Symphony

Rating: 5.0

An unexpected pleasant morning,
As I sat on a natural wooden bench,
Waking up to the murmur of the sea waves,
Watching the sunrise with a golden glow.

All of a sudden, I saw
A delightful sight with wonder,
A parrots' parade in the blue sky,
A profusion of green birds flying together.

Only once before, I have seen
One hundred and more parrots together,
On a single tree in Silent Valley of Kerala,
O! An unforgettable sight stored in my memory.

Blessed I am, to see such a vision again,
Beside the sandy beaches of Manori Island,
Breath-taking view of so many birds flying together,
Beauteous pattern of symmetry and design.

They descended down in a flock,
Then headed straight towards
The tall Casuarina tree - And
That's where I was seated, just near the tree.

The parrots were in great cheer
Flapping their wings merrily,
Fluttering around in a glee,
Then, settling on the branches so wiry.
Never heard such continuous chatter,
Never experienced such lively twitter,
Lovely parrots in a never-ending conversation,
Least bothered or disturbed by my participation.

I have heard the classical symphony of
Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Mozart,
But the symphony of parrot's twitter tee,
Is something that shall ever echo in my ears.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is a true experience, a couple of days back, when I visited Manori island in Mumbai with my husband and daughter. It happened
early morning. I was so entranced by the sight that I did not take any
photographs. Any movement, would have disturbed the parrots'
symphony. I was afraid that they would fly away. But i took the photograph of the place and the tree (Casuarina) on which the parrots were perched in a big flock.

Geeta, I relate to this experience because of your fervent description. I have not witnessed parrots like this, but I have witnessed hundreds of starlings in liquid formations and dozens of crows in a few trees as the sun rose. What a blessing and privilege to be present for such things! -Glen

Thank you Glen for sharing your experience. I feel the best experience in life is to be able to see the wonders of life. The more you see these picturesque sights of beauty, the more one is convinced of the great Architect who is omnipresent.

This is indeed a true masterpiece. A poem eulogizing the sweet song of scores of parrots perched on a single tree. The reader can very well realize the magic produced by the mellifluous sound of parrots' song which is comparable to the symphony of great music maestros. A superfine portrayal nature. Thank you, Geeta ji.
