Bird 10 - The Smiling Sparrows Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Bird 10 - The Smiling Sparrows

Rating: 5.0

I get up every morning to musical notes, so pleasing!
Sweet chirpy, cheep sounds like teasing,
I know they are tiny, tiny house sparrows,
Soulful birds that bond to sooth human marrows.

When I open my sleepy morning eyes
What do I see on my window panes?
Little, little, cute, cute, sparrows - so polite!
Letting out their joyous squeaks in delight.

The little sparrows dance - hip hop- hip hop,
Then, swing up and down - see saw- see saw,
From leaf to leaf, they sing - ding dong - ding dong,
From petal to petal, they glide - sing song - sing song!

What a sprightly dance of joyous splendour,
I smile at these brownies with wonder,
They smile back in united chorus blender,
I have made my day with sweet surrender!

Never seen sparrows coming alone or single,
Forever in twos, fours, eights- ready to mingle,
Ever smiling, friendly, singing a jingle,
Clever brownies that gives you a tingle.

When a sparrow visits my cosy house,
I know they come with a sweet message,
To remain happy, smiling, that you are alive,
To count your blessings that you have another day more to live.

Hi, Geeta! I like this. It reminds me of songs in Shakespeare plays. The picture looks like what are called Common Sparrows. But we know the fallacy of thinking anything common, yes? Down the street from me in a neighbor’s front yard is a tall Yucca, and in its large crown these sparrows nest year round. Sometimes as I pass they make their presence known in their communal chirping. Glen

Hi Glen, So good to know that this poem reminds you of the songs in Shakespeare plays. You are right. There is nothing common. Every being, i believe, is a special creation of God. Happy to know that you live in a place inhabited by sparrows and other birds and can hear their communal chirping. That lovely, Glen. And a big thanks!

Excellent...this poem actually sings a song on sparrows.....very musical...how much joy we get from the sparrows watching their activities...not a single day is enough...we need a longer life to enjoy beautiful birds and their singing in nature...indeed a wonderful poem 10++++
