Bri Edward's November 2023 Showcase Poem by Bri Edwards

Bri Edward's November 2023 Showcase

Rating: 5.0

OOPS! ! ! As brought to my attention by poet anais vionet,
I, Bri, misnamed this showcase 'October's' when I should
have said November! ! ! Sorry for my mixup/error. I'm OLD.
bri ;)

[ Introductory Poem]:

Halloween's approaching & I've penned some poems just for me,
but now I take time to present poems of others, and they're FREE.
They're free here on PoemHunter.com, spanning years of writing.
My hope is that some of them will be read by YOU. I'm inviting.

Last month, away from my home & on a 'strange' PC, I did FAIL.
I failed to put together a Poem Showcase proper; I tried to no avail.

Now back on my wife's trusty PC, I'm hoping to have better LUCK.
If I don't succeed, I may rant and rave and shout outloud: .....F++K!

I'll choose 'others' poems' from my 'Activity' listing on my PH site.
I hope you'll read some, not dislike ANY, and at least think 'alright'.

(October 22nd 2023)

bri edwards

:)

p.s. The poems will be copied from the authors' PH pages. I don't plan to make any changes. But, due to time & space restrictions I will limit the list (maybe) to TEN POEMS. If a poem is VERY LONG, I may only include part of the poem.
I also plan to add my Bri's Notes at the end of each poem (or part thereof) to give my thoughts on the poems and/or authors) .

Bear with me as I compose this showcase, perhaps with it being not in its complete form before I first submit it to PH. Thank you!

And THANKS TO THE POETS! !

From Womb To Tomb
Poem by Rose Marie Juan-austin

Experts advised her
To expel you
And never
She will see
The likeness of you.

She stood by your side
From the moment you were conceived
You have the legal
And moral
Rights to be protected
And nurtured.

You shall be born
See the light
And enjoy the beauty of life
You must experience
The wonders of existence.

Some people said
She will bear the burden
From womb to tomb
If she will let you
Stay with her.

She made them aware
She will worry about you
Every single minute
But the bundle of joy
You will bring is infinite.

They keep on reminding
From womb to tomb
You will generate sadness
She keeps on rebutting
From womb to tomb
You will give happiness.

The thought of you
Just excites her
But it scares her to death
How she will react
At the moment of your birth.

She holds on to her gut
She knows everything
Will be alright
For God will be here
To make it right.

In every fiber of her being
You are indelibly marked
You will never part
From birth to death
And life after death.

Bri's Notes:
This poem, by a longtime PH poet, and devoted Pro Life advocate, deals with a mother-to-be's insistence that her child will be born & be 'with her' from Womb To Tomb. It's a compelling poem, though it did not make me opposed to abortion. Rose Marie has gotten a 'huge' number of comments, including many from me (in two visits) and, I think, from her daughter. The Cliff Of Insanity
Poem by Riv Omin

I keep slipping
I'm growing tired of holding on
To a cliff that keeps me awake
It's too hard to climb up
And too easy to fall
I wish to call for help
For me, for others, each closer and farther
But I can't
I can't explain it
It's hard to when your brain is a knot
Tied up then ripped to pieces
I see the doom beneath me
And I laugh a sad chuckle
Knowing if I don't scream, I will fall
I'm wishing you will just look over the edge
Just one peak
Because my voice isn't working
I keep slipping
Down the cliff to insanity
But I want to help the people next to me first
Because I know I'm already gone

Bri's Notes: This 'new poet' on PH has presented a fabulous poem which made me wonder if he might contemplate suicide, another life-choice which I DO NOT condemn. I did however, pass along to him a tel. # for discussing suicidal thoughts & crises here in the USA:
988 telephone 'hotline'. bri :)

Limits
Poem by Nageswara Rao Ravella

There was a spinster of sixty years old.
She pleaded god from the hospital bed to extend her life since her wishes were not fulfilled.
God granted her hundred years more.
She was remade as an angel with insurance money.
With exuberance, she stepped out of the hospital.
No sooner, she died of a crash.
She questioned god that he could not keep up his promise.
God expressed his inability to identify her.
If limits are breached, even god is helpless.

Saturday, October 7,2023

Bri's Notes:
Another 'new poet' on PH is Nageswara Rao Ravella.
I wonder 'could this poem be TRUTHFUL'? ? :) And what 'wishes' had not yet been met for the 'spinster'? Did she
wish to finally marry?
As for God's 'helplessness', I'll let readers decide for themselves.

An Ode To Names Of Mother Goddess
Poem by Savita Tyagi

Nav- durga (Part I)

Nine ancient names of Mother Goddess,
So mesmerizing in its melodious rendering.

Some intense emotions and reverence is invoked
simply by its poetic composition and sound vibration.

Beyond my grasp is the full meaning,
Of these melodious, unforgettable verses.
Wandering at the corridors of my mind
I dwell on it's poetic charm day and night.

By some mysterious processes
Each name starts to reveal
It's meaning and a deeper connection
To cosmic workings,
And to our own self.
Awe-struck I am!

In six lines, eight of these names are paired in set of two.
Look at the duality of the Cosmic forces,
And at our physical and psychological energies
Working in pairs!
Pairs that seem to work as opposites,
Yet create and sustain a symphony
Of Life cycle!

The ninth name stands alone as the bestower of grace,
Both in Macrocosm and Microcosm!

Bri's Notes:
My good and faithful (in more ways than one it seems) PH friend Savita presents her feelings/ideas/interpretations regarding a religious writing. I don't claim to understand it or believe it, but she impressed me by hercomposition.
Bri :)
p.s. She also has a Part 2 on PH.

Turkey Sandwich
Poem by Ruth Walters

Miss Jeffries, was cold,
like a dry, stale turkey sandwich.
She was always in a foul mood,
curling up at the edges.
She'd pick and prod and scream
for no reason,
similar to a crazed old fowl,
spiteful, sharp spurs,
and always ruling the roost.

Tuesday, October 3,2023

Bri's Notes: Ruth is also a good and 'old' PH friend I have. She hasn't many poems; I think she deleted a lot she had. But I think all are worth reading. I certainly enjoy them. I wonder if YOU, Reader, know of a 'Miss Jeffries'. Hmm? I feel kind of sorry for Miss J.: (She probably just needs a GOOD man to satisfy her and 'put her in her place'! !
Bri :)
By the way, Ruth is in the U.K., so forgive her if her 'English' is not as good as mine is!

The Obsessive Agony Of Lust
Poem by Chinedu Dike

Self lost in obsessive agony,
Your primal passion - a flaming ferocity,
The raging fire consumes your dignity,
And shame is put to slumber.

Seduced by the wayward twin of Love,
Power of deviation subdued,
On pathway of despair you tread:
A burden too heavy to bear.

Mind drowning in bitter-sweetened sensation,
Onto elusive dream you strive to hold fast -
Which vanishes like alluring mirages in vast
Deserts: a lethal mix of hope and anxiety.

Raving lunatic you've become
Seeking savage-desire's fulfillment:
An ugly reflection of nature devoid of contentment.
Lust: a nightmare in the lonely bed of infatuation.

Sunday, August 30,2015

Bri's Notes:
I've 'seen' Chinedu's comments on others' poems from time to time on PH. His PH bio [biography] is HUGE, like mine is. Don't get too lustful while reading his poem! And, IF YOU DO, please don't make me watch! ! Bri ;)

Careless Whisperer
Poem by anais vionet

Dear careless whisperer,
Some sharings are dagger-edged
and there is no escape when they're turned on you
no countermagic for the soul crushing embarrassment
dropped as if from a great height.
Did you hear the gun-shot thunderclap of confidence
leaving the room?

Tuesday, June 30,2020

Topic(s) of this poem: carelessness, confidence, sadness, shame, teen

Bri's Notes:
Yes, anais (at least on PH) does NOT capitalize her first or last name. For her poem, many of which look and sound more like stories & not poems, I've listed her 'Topics' for this poem. She IS almost still a 'teen', only being (I think) 20 years old and a student at Yale University. Many of her stories which I've read are much longer than this one & speak of her non-academic activities with friends at Yale.

By Their Fruits
Poem by Emmatobs de thought writer

I'm tired of scammers for there are so many around
For every situation a scammer should be found
Scammer there, scammers here
Want to take what i have down to my underwear

They send me letters short and sweet
With a promises of riches and love to meet
For their tongues are filled with lies
Pleading to my kind heart for a prizes

What is about them that makes
Or what makes them acted like cold hearted snakes?
Hiss, Honesty be damned!
How would they like it if they where being scammed?

A false story they weaves in their web
To skip my defenses and get into my head
Like hungery snake they lie in wait
As they want me to fall in their plate

Well, scamming can be reaches far back into history
The demise of the Neanderthals might not have being a mystery
Did early sapiens with carefully planned presistence
Scam Neanderthalensis out of it early existence?

They ask for a much needed donation
For i am generous with my information
It is sad but true, those thieves want to sleep
Peacefully on my savings, as they want to keep

Sometimes i wonder, how can they settle to be an imitation
When all they need is a little bit of contemplation
Cos they springs as their target come near
Before the poor victim can even show fear

Deception can line empty greedy pockets
False front should be on court dockets
With a head shake of disbelief, i wonder
How anyone can be so phony and plunder

Having no conscience, they are scum
Their mind are selfish, their heart are numb
They do not care which rules they subvent
They couldn't care less if people get hurt

Beware of this sugar coated thieves
They have fake arms in their sleeves
Although there are many reputable charities
Observations shows that dupe are not rarities

It is my intension to bring an alertness
Perhaps it can prevent a victimized intertness
So beware my kindred souls
Report and block these stinking stroll

Bri's Notes:
This poem is substituted for one originally in this #8 position, one which was requested to be removed. That removal
made room for another 'New Poet' to PH who, though his
poem has numerous English errors, has impressed me greatly. He even has several 'typos' in his extensive PH bio which reads (in part) :
'A young Nigerian rise with western development. Olawale Tobiloba Emmanuel know as Emmatobs or Emmatobs de thought Writer is an Author, spoken words artists, writer, poet, short stories writer, gospel artists, song writers, poem rider, and Quotes maker.'
These two corrections I believe should be made in the
poem: 1 - in stanza 9: 'subvert' for 'subvent', and in
stanza 11: 'trolls' for 'stroll'. ;)
AND, in stanza 7, the auther uses 'Cos' I THINK as I, Bri, might use ' 'cause ' instead of spelling out the word 'because'.

Happy Birthday To Me
Poem by Spanner Thegob

In the mirror I'm shocked to see
An old man stares back at me.

Hair sparse White and thin
Covers tired Pallid skin.
Light leaving old eyes
Staring back with sad surprise.

Youth is spent as life grows dim
I turn away rejecting him
Fumbling in an old man's room
Lifting blinds to banish gloom.

Stub my toe. Silent yell
Leaves my lips' Ruddy hell'
In your wildest dream you say
Never thought you would see the day....

'4 score years and three
Happy birthday to me'

Bri's Notes:
'Spanner Thegob Biography: Born in 1960' That's simple! !
As more and MORE 'older' poets on this site get even OLDER,
more of 'us' may 'appreciate' Spanner's little poem. I did! !

10 - The Loneliest Road Not Traveled
Poem by James McLain

The loneliest road, a path unknown,
Where footprints fade, the seeds unsown.
Amidst the woods, in silent grace,
A solitary journey we all must embrace.

Beneath the moon's pale, silver light,
The stars above, a quiet night.
In solitude, we find our way,
A road less traveled, come what may.

Through winding lanes and darkened woods,
The loneliest road, where silence broods.
But in this solitude, we'll find,
A deeper self, an awakened mind.

The loneliest road, it's not in vain,
For in its silence, we attain,
A strength to tread where others fear,
The road less traveled, crystal clear.

So let us walk with hearts held high,
The loneliest road, beneath the sky.
Embrace the journey, bold and true,
For in its solitude, we are renewed.

Bri's Notes: James, another seasoned member of PH, and one of the few whose email address I have, has had 'rough periods' in his life in Florida. Now things are 'looking up', last I heard, and his poetry 'today', compared to years ago, is like a freshly-restored Spring forest, its leaves bright green once more producing the things 'new leaves' produce, after a winter
of dead brown leaves scattered on the forest floor.

Readers [ & James ], Both I & Kim Barney have felt this poem is his BEST poem yet.

Actually, this poem was inspired by a friend whose daughter has special needs; Down Syndrome with slight Autism. She is nonverbal and nonfunctional. In addition to this poem, I also wrote 2 poems entitled; Silence and Always A Child.

I have to come back to add comments on my Poem re: From Womb To Tomb. I have stated in my earlier comments that I always stand for pro life. I have to qualify my statement that in case the life of a mother is compromised, I support abortion.
