C.O.M.M.E.R.C.I.A.L. (C) 1-14-10

Commercially leave us in a trance
Throw lies in front of us to make us think everything’s cool
The War in Iraq seems to be the only thing of major concern
The only thing we should worry about
See nothing matters to people that don’t live in certain circumstances
The children in Africa killin over the conflict diamonds
Or the eight year old Chinese boy workin his limbs off for a nickel
Or the Villages under the attack of pillagers
That destroy the dreams of the innocents burnin down the businesses
That kill the witnesses even innocents harboring no sentiments
But your day is ruined because you broke your Ipod
Fight in the lines for the next great game that makes the market
Let me ask do you think you’d rock jewelry if you knew what it took to make it
Everyone probably thinks no to be morally correct but yes we’re all hypocrites
The big story in the news is entitled, “The Octu-Mom’s lips”
Or look everybody Beyonce lied about her hips
Or young black boys watch how the pimps take pimp sips
Not, “The government signs the bill for the RF-ID chip
Or the President of the United States signs the North American Union.
Disaster strikes and that’s when people return to the altars
The commercials leave us in a stupor, a mental breakdown
Because everybody always wanna keep up with the Jones’
Rap music portrays getting shot is some how metaphysically deep
Or shootin a nigga earns you street cred
But where does street cred matter in the grave
No more, “Its all fun and games until someone gets hurt”
Now it’s not fun and games until somebody gets killed
Anybody pay attention to that message,
Where is Hip-Hop the true form of displayin the message
Do you mean to tell me Hip-Hop is underrated
Instead we listen to Lil Wayne to see if what he’s sayin makes sense
Or if he’s even saying anything at all
The two month long dance craze that everyone falls for
Or what about the selling of sex, lets get technical
In order to be said to practice pedophilia is to have
Engaged in any form of sexual activity with someone under the age of 17
So truthfully if lollipop and booty meat is broadcasted on the radio
By rappers that are over the age of seventeen instilling in the mind of 12 year olds
That havin sex brings you to a level of adulthood that your parents block you from
Because parents always wanna stop the fun of havin a child when you can’t take care of yourself
Or suffering from AIDS or any other STD living with the horror of dying soon
Shouldn’t they too be arrested
Like a fool I fell for their not so wily tricks, I made many mistakes
We all have because we all seem to live life like tomorrow is guaranteed
But its not,
The only thing that’s guaranteed in this world is that nothing is guaranteed
America and the rest of this world treats us “clueless idiots” like, well clueless idiots
Their tricks so disappointing,
But I understand if I was an idiot being sent into a circular room and told to find the corner,
No I lied I’d wake up and realize that I’m being bamboozled
We don’t need this we’re smarter than this,
Forget the street next to you that you unreasonably have beef with because they looked at you funny
We don’t need idiots in this fight what we need to do is to
Cut off media maliciousness, expose real censored issues America lids
The real form of Commercial

Rigth Corey, very right. I stopped looking tv myself, but the news on the intenet is taking as much a ride wih reality as tv. An advantage of internet, you can read some of the outrageous reader's comments immediately below the article. I was really happy to read such a mature poem with such giant insight from a 17 year old. Keep it up man, never let your ideals down, you can make a positive difference in this world.

Hi Corey - A megapoem - I am pleased to be the first to have the temerity to comment. I see this epic as a Protest Poem against 2st C - Commercialism. There are key statements about or complacency (the k is no better than the USA) L 11 'But your day is ruined becauseyou broke your Ipod' L 22 'Because everybody always wanna keep up with the Jones'' L 31 Instead we listen to Lil Wayne to see if what he's sayin makes sense'. L 46 The only thing that's guarnteeed in this world - is that nothing is guaranteed. Lines 1 - 10 are a protest against Child Labour i Africa and China. In lines 12 - 21 the 'hard labour' of people in the Gem Trade is highlighted. Lines 22 - 30 emphasise how the media (news) demands killing for it to feed on and not just injury. We live in a very violent age. In lines 32 - 45 you expose the sexploitation of young bodies and young minds.and you make the point that in or time we all got sucked in. In the closing lines you focu the blame on a maliciuos media as the source of much infromation imbibed by undicriminatory adolescent. 'cut off media maliciuoness - expose real censored issues American lids - the real form of Commercial. Well done a very powerfu protest poem - thanks for sharing some of your ideas - Yours in poetry - JOHN.
