Devi Mahishasura Mardini 1 Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Devi Mahishasura Mardini 1

Rating: 5.0

O Devi! Daughter of the mountain,
The playful creator of this universe!
Abiding majestically in the Vindhyas,
Vishnu's Adorable Sister,
Worshipped by Lord Indra,
O Bhagavati! You belong to Shiva!
Victory and glory unto You! O Mahishasura-mardini!
The powerful annihilator of the evil Asura
With lustrous tresses cascading down;
You are the beautiful daughter of the mountain!

You shower blessings on your devotees,
But for the enemies, you are a fierce avenger,
For the wicked ones, you are a terror,
Always happy and joyous- the protector of the three worlds,
Sankara's beloved spouse- remover of sorrows,
The subjugator of the arrogant demons,
Victory and glory unto You! O Mahishasura-mardini!
The powerful annihilator of the evil Asura
With lustrous tresses cascading down;
You are the beautiful daughter of the mountain!

O Mother of this universe!
Residing in the fragrant kadamba forests
With an enchanting smile;
Seated atop the Himalayas- tasting sweet honey,
The killer of the evil demons - Madhu and Kaitabha,
Roaring with laughter as the great winner,
Victory and glory unto You! O Mahishasura-mardini!
The powerful annihilator of the evil Asura
With lustrous tresses cascading down;
You are the beautiful daughter of the mountain!
