Sage Markandeya -
The author-composer of ‘Devi Mahatmyam',
Bows down before the great Goddess
And begins his devotional song.
Markandeya hails the great Goddess:
"O Victorious Devi, Chamunde!
Victory unto You!
The remover of all sufferings, pain and passion
Omnipresent Devi! Dark and awe-inspiring
I bow down before you with folded hands! "
O Devi! You are Jayanti - always a winner
You are Mangala - of extreme auspiciousness!
You are Kaali - the process of dissolution during deluge
You are Bhadra Kaali - of happiness and serenity
You are Kapaalini- one who resides in the forehead
You are Durga - one who lifts up devotees unscathed from the sea of turmoil!
You are Shiva - the true nature of pure consciousness,
You are Kshama - the compassionate and merciful,
You are Dhaatri - the bestower and sustainer of all beings,
You are Svaha -one who pleases Gods,
You are Svadha - one who pleases the forefathers,
I bow down before all these veritable and powerful forms of Devi!
Reading such a great poem on the occasion of Navaratri festival is a great fortune and we feel glad reading such a glorious hymn. With much eagerness and devotion we chant name of Goddess with greatness of vision and perception. We are wishing you very happy Dussehera. An excellent poem is beautifully penned.10
Awesome poem on goddess in different forms with all positive qualities Blessed is the poet Dr. Geeta Radhakrishna Menon who has written this divine poem.
This is an amazing poem and a prayer dedicated to various forms of Goddess Durga and their benevolent powers for all devotees. Thanks for sharing this poem as well as for the Notes. I have heard that the Markandeya Puran contains 'Durga Saptashati' containing 1000 names of Goddess Durga. This is recited by devotees of the Goddess to propitiate her and to seek her blessings. Thanks, Geeta ji, for this outstanding piece of poetry.
