Geeta: ......" Lighter " Than Geetha....[ A Rose By Any Other Name Would Smell As Sweet; Short; Inspired By A Note From Geeta R. Menon, Not Geetha ]

Rating: 4.5

blessed i am, ...
if "blessed" there IS,
..... with 'friends' like you,
from near and VERY far away.

but, if by "lighter" you mean shorter,
as in your first name, Geeta, on this site,
may isuggest a change to just "Radhak"? ? ?
YOU may even like it better.yes, you just might! !

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
my thanks to "Bill" Shakespeare:
(AND Google) :

""A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" is a popular reference to William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, in which Juliet seems to argue that it does not matter that Romeo is from her family's rival house*** of Montague, that is, that he is named "Montague"."

*** thisreminds me of the Romeo and Juliet "sound-alike" story in the American musical play/movie West Side Story*****.

***** [again, my thanks go to Google et al]:

"West Side Story is a 1961 American romantic musical tragedy film directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins. The film is an adaptation of the 1957 Broadway musical of the same name, which in turn was inspired by William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet."
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Geeta and Geetha are two different names, two different personalities! By adding an 'h' the name becomes 'heavier' perhaps with greater responsibility. Indian dance has sound syllables like 'Ta' and 'Tha'. Ta is the lighter tap with the leg while Tha is a heavy stamp of the leg. Perhaps, that's the reason my parents spelt my name as Geeta and not Geetha. :)

Geeta, my second wife said she weighed 140 pounds when we met, having recently 'lost' 20-40 pounds. she spelled her name Debbie. after a few months i noticed (on the checks she bounced) that she'd begun using Dhebbie, then Dhebbhie, and finally Dhebbhieh! all the while she was getting heavier, reaching 210 pounds before i shipped her to the slaughter house. i was bit heavier at the time of our parting. bri ;)

Geeta, interesting! When I met my 2nd wife, she weighed 140 pounds [saying she’d recently lost 20-40 pounds] AND she spelled her name Debbie. Over the next year or so she gained weight and kept adding “h”s to her name: Dhebbie; Dhebbhie; Dhebbhieh. Finally, after she’d gained 70 pounds (and 3 “h”s) and ‘other things’ had happened, we parted, my weight having increased 20-30 pounds to 230; I HAD to ‘protect’ myself! Bri :)

When today I noticed (in Notifications on PH) that my friend Bharati Nayak had commented favorably on this poem about another friend, GEETA M., I did not recognize the title's wording, BUT it LOOKED like one I might write. : ) bri

Enjoyed reading the comments more than the poem itself. Couldn't agree more with Kelly Kurt, although I Know that nobody asked me to agree or disagree!

Khairul, you sent the same poem comment twice. you shouldn't waste too much ink! ! ha ha. i also agree, in part, with Kelly K., but he doesn't know exactly what inspired the 'shortening' idea; it was not exactly me! [ to be fair, most of my poems ARE LONGER than their titles.. ;) ] and i also enjoy reading some comments more than reading some poems on PH. thanks for the comment(s) . i shall now send this response to you also to your Inbox. bri :)
