George Eliot (1819-1880)was a renowned writer
of Victorian age or perhaps
of the entire 19th century English literature.
Adam Bede (1859) , The Mill On The Floss (1860) ,
Silas Marner (1861) , Romola and Middlemarch
are some of the novels written by this great writer
plus many other books on different subjects
It would be interesting to note
that George Eliot was the pen name
of Mary Ann Evans, a woman, who wanted to keep
her identity and personal life
away from the public glare. Perhaps this is the only case
where a well-known woman writer/novelist has
adopted a male name as her nom de plume for life
A concise poem with much information. Rarely does a woman author writes in a male pen name. So Mary Ann Evans is George Eliot.
