Grumpy and Tommy
My grandson has a baseball
signed by Tommy Lasorda.
He got it from his other grandpa
that all the grandchildren
called Grumpy.
Grumpy was a huge baseball fan
and always had season tickets
to the Ogden Raptors.
The Raptors used to be a farm team
for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but
that affiliation stopped last year.
Tommy Lasorda often came
to Ogden to watch the Raptors play.
Grumpy met him several times.
Tommy was manager of the Dodgers
when they won the World Series
in 1988. Remember Kirk Gibson's
historic home run? Yes, that was
the year.
After Grumpy's recent funeral,
his family gathered to give away
his more than 400 hats
and a lot of baseball memorabilia.
A few moments after my grandson
got the baseball, someone said,
"Hey, Tommy Lasorda just died today! "
Tommy may be gone now,
but every time I see my grandson's
baseball, I will remember him.
I caught this poem before off line, and just had to comment now. Beautiful poem with such beautiful sentiments too! .. Beautiful honors! .. Definite 5 Stars! ...+++++
