Interesting Insects 5 - The Amazing Ants

Rating: 4.4

Ants are amazing tiny insects.
If you watch them carefully,
You will know and realise that
They are highly organised and skilled,
Working incessantly and laboriously,
Ever disciplined and dedicated!

Over two hundred species of ant families
Live on this planet without any fear.
They have their own agenda and
Live by strict rules.
They are busy bodies
Continuously engaged in some work.

I love watching ants specially the little black ants,
Their team spirit is amazing!
They never come alone - always in groups,
So meticulously walking in a line, in order,
So much of respect and care for each other,
Always working with concentration on a project together.

There are a variety of ants - the black and brown ants,
Red ants, fire ants, carpenter ants and others too!
But please! Beware of the red and fire ants!
They can pinch the skin with their mandibles,
Bite or sting and release a spurt of acidic venom
That can cause blistering or burning sensation.

Of all the ants, I love the ants
That my grandmother described.
They come streaming into the house
Like a speeding train,
Bringing a lot of auspicious tidings
An ambassador of good luck!

Madam Varsha is no less than a speeding train. In her comments, she has repeated as many as five lines. Then, how will the ants react on seeing 'sugar prices'.

All facts on the ants and their community and social life have been compiled meticulously and presented in an easy to understand style, that too, in poetic form. You have also related it with your childhood memories. What a beautiful way to end this poem with the popular belief that the ants are considered 'An ambassador of good luck' while entering a house like 'Like a speeding train'. Thanks, Geeta Ma'am.

Geeta is a nature-lover and keen observer. Her many poems testify this. This one is a fantastic poem on ants, whom we tend to ignore. Nice.
