Interesting Insects 4 - Shed Light O Glowing Firefly!

Rating: 5.0

Luminescent Firefly, so bright,
Like a tiny lamp, gentle and light,
Lightening the dark, mystical night,
Luminous, joyful, radiant white,
Lead me through your white light!

O! Glowing Firefly!
Light my path with your fluorescence,
Let each step of mine cheer with incandescence,
Let my thoughts brighten with phosphorescence,
Light up, shed light and illuminate my mind with radiance!

One brilliant poem. Since childhood have been watching them glow with their tiny lights. I miss these insects in this concrete jungle. Loved reading it.10++

The firefly's glow takes us to the threshold of vision, where we find mystery. Such wondrous creatures remind us of the creative spark that underlies natural forms. Encountering a firefly can be an occasion for spontaneous prayer.

The firefly in your picture is different from what I saw as a boy. Our fireflies in Ohio had opaque outer wings of black chitin, with membranous inner wings. The last three segments of the abdomen were a pale yellow " lamp" . The lamps flashed, near and far, as the " lightning bugs" flew about. When a lightning bug rested in the grass, its glow illuminated a few neighboring grassblades.
