'KANDUKAETTU UNDUUYIRTHU UTTARIYUM AYEMPULANGALUM
OONDODI KANNAEI ULA ' -THIRUKKURAL BY THIRUVALLUVAR [tamil poem]
All our five senses are awake
only when we make love...
says this short poem
i wonder why the poet told so
why he left the sixth..to go
the sixth starts it all...
this act of making love.
A lovely embracing TOUCH
the sweet kiss to TASTE
a gaze of love in the EYE
an aroma of love to SMELL
amidst the melody of moans to HEAR
All this is a share out of LOVE
All this would be human only with love....and
that only the sixth can endow....
the sixth starts it all...this love
AT THE END OF IT ALL
TO PEAK IT ALL
THE SEVENTH SENSE 'BLISS' WOULD BLESS US ALL
Another impressive write, samanyan, cleverly written on a different aspect of our senses. In our Wesern world, we regard the sixth sense as ESP, the ability to feel and know someone else's thoughts and feelings. And when one is in love, as your poems suggests, that sense is very acute, as it should be. I liked this fine poem very much. Carl.
Love is of different kinds. Love for sister and brother and love for wife are not one and the same. Love for animal and love for God are different. The word love is not meant for sexual pleasures only, but has got more higher spiritual meaning. It is said Love is God and God is love. The final moral of the poem is the bliss in the higher sense of love, as it means.
Go on with other Kurals also...a valuable attempt...God bless you
Thiru Valluvar is talking about practical love making, SLN...no sixth or seventh sense involved there in the Kural...thanks
yes Samanyan. Love is the soul of all senses. A great Kural and you have wonderfully done it in English.
The concept of love is synonym with our heart. Love comes natural and then only the act of love. The act of love doesn't reinforce love but only expresses the love that is ALREADY in our heart. The difference is to be distinguished. Let us have one firm view- that our great ancient poets are never wrong when they have made certain statements. It is only that we do not grasp the idea with our little brains.

I would like to translate this poem
written in a very refined and novel way...probably your best!
