Monsoon Song Poem by Nosheen Irfan

Monsoon Song

Rating: 4.9

When the days are long and wearisome
And heart has died a thousand deaths
The sound of rain is music to ears
Tip-tapping or pounding, it's good to hear

No soul can dwell on sorrow of yore
When rain sings and dances at the door
Sometimes with gentle steps skipping
And sometimes beating against the wind

I feel the freshness of trees in me
Drenched to the soul, with fragrance
Washed and sparkling leaves ring
With the tinkling laughter of youth

With melody, the heart is submerged
I hear the song and feel all is well.

My favorite lines: I feel the freshness of trees in me / Drenched to the soul, with fragrance. I love the aroma of rainwater mixed with tree bark, and you evoked it for with the key words freshness and fragrance. And also the phrase DRENCHED TO THE SOUL shows the depth of appreciation for this feature of nature: just last week I sat on my balcony all through a shower, and smelled the wood/rain fragrance waft up to my place of rest. It was a richly sensory ex[perience but also felt on the soul-level as your poem reveals. Just wonderful writing, Nosheen! !

The freshness of trees in me, drenched to the soul...... Writing such lines is such a joy, isn't it? To give birth to such beauty is an activity hard to surpass! ! ! You nailed a common experience that no one has put words to before- and then reading this, we know this is exactly the right words to portray what we've felt but did not have your talent to say it, Love this piece, Nosheen! 10+++++++++++++++++++++++

A beautifully expressive poem. I too love the rain. I love the line, I feel the freshness of trees in me. I imagine a maiden in the middle of the forest spinning as the rain falls on her, leaving droplets flying in the air. This is a poem of celebration, gratitude, and appreciation for nature. Well done. Thanks for sharing! :)

Here the pattering and pounding of rain on the roof and window panes have suddenly electrified your gloomy mood to one of exuberant energy and your mind has begun dancing in tune with the Monsoon song! I too have experienced the healing effect of songs several times! Beautiful write Nosheen...... I love your short and cute poems! (10)

I have been struggling to find out a poem on which I haven't commented so far and finally came across this one! In our weariness and exhaustion, sometimes Nature and its wonderful phenomena can create a sudden upsurge of energy and cheer in us.

Stanza Three expresses the sheer joy of people when the monsoon breaks the heat and cooling rains fall. I love these images which link nature and humanity: I feel the freshness of trees within me. That sjhows a wonderful intimacy between the human being and the plant being. They suffered through drought together and now rejoice together. Modern city life separates so many people from the natural world and they have no way of feeling a kinship, uniting themselves and nature. This is modern alienation.

A positive approach to rains, so nicely painted by the poetess that the poem appears a rainbow to me.
