My father had to lose his voice,
Since he was left with no other choice.
He used to be a casual smoker,
Still he was afflicted with cancer.
Biopsy done & cancer proved,
His vocal chord was removed.
He could speak with diaphragm,
An electronic device of 200 gram.
He lived for another 20 years,
He had to pay a price my dears.
Give up smoking if you smoke,
Shun the urge, it might choke.
In my country, the younger generation are less incline to pick up smoking, probably because of less peer pressure. The older people who smokes are a dying generation anyway. Nevertheless, your advice in a fine poem is a timely reminder. Thank you my friend
This is heartening to note that younger generation, everywhere, keeps itself from getting into the trap. Yes, this is because of lesser peer pressure than it used to be a couple of decades ago. Your valuable feedback and support means a lot, Dear Friend Loke.
Excellent advice. My father also smoked when he was younger, but quit about the time he got married. He kept his old pipe in a cupboard for years but never used it. He lived to be 86.
Cancer is one dangerous disease. There can be oral cancer, lung cancer and then metastasis. Many more problems.
Losing the father is very sorrowful...but smoking and cancer be the reason for his demise is very unfortunate...a touching poem with a message for the readers
