The War Singer (Fr. L. Cohen) Poem by LeeAnn Azzopardi

The War Singer (Fr. L. Cohen)

Rating: 5.0

The guns of the desert are silenced
As the voice of the war singer echoed
Through the sandy wind
He sang a ballad of a past love in the trenches
Where he slept like a soldier
And ate a soldier's fill
I wondered if he had found himself
Among the dead and dying
for he wanted to stop singing
Because his fire was out
As he composed words in the heart of soldiers
His eternal flame relighted
The memory of his voice will exist
Lying in a Montreal cemetery

An extremely profound poem. War is a terrible thing. You have told this truth without saying so. Sheer class! 4 stars!
