Ululation - Poem by Kumarmani Mahakul

Ululation is heard at the time of cruel death,
Umpteen People ululate from heart depth.
Unbearable pain it is for everyone sure,
Unavoidable is death no one can cure.

Unanticipated death comes to all at any time.
Unbidden it is, it hugs everybody without crime.
Unconcern is obtained people do think,
Unctuously it is true for present life link.

Undeniably resolves go with soul after death,
Undying is soul but body is dying when no breath.
Ungovernable sword can do no harm, nor the fire,
Uptight water can’t sink nor fly away the violent air.

Uptake we should have as man is truly mortal,
Ululation we mustn’t have as soul is immortal.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

Here poet says about the mournful loud cry which appears at the time of kinsman’s death. It is general truth that death must come to all and many people ululate for them. Though it is unavoidable and unbearable, death must hug to people’s body in time without their crime. But soul is immortal, no sword can cut, no fire can burn, no water can sink nor can wind fly away it. So we must understand and mustn’t have ululation. This is the theme of the poem in nutshell. It is written in Deogarh, Odisha, India and is dedicated to the people of the world.
Glossary
Ululation – A long, loud, mournful cry
Unbidden – not commanded or invited
Unconcern – freedom from anxiety

Uptake - understanding

I could never ululate. I think in fact that we don't mourn for the dead, but mourn for ourselves. They are in a better place and we have to live without them til it's our turn. (Report)Reply

While reading the poem, I enjoyed the music of Ultrasonic words to my heart's satisfaction. I forgot, for a while, that the poem is about Death- the Ultimate destination of life. Thanks for this great poem. (Report)Reply

Unavoidable is death; because, immediately one is born, one is about to die. Nice work. (Report)Reply
