Rating: 5.0

WEDNESDAY´s SONNET….
Happy Diwali Festivities

i pray to Thee for the happy nights-be
may they celebrate this happy light feast
the festivity of warmth, utmost glee
the soul be as the rising sun in th´east

trivial celebrating festivities
diff´rent historical events-stories
deities Rama-Sita´s return to A.
Hindus Ayodhya´s 14-year exile
goddess Durga destroyed demon Mah´sha
Sikh´s golden temple in Amritsar,
Mahavira´s Jainism moksha´s bliss
year´s lights celebrations

annually during five nights feasts of lights
i thank God Almighty for this possibility….

Wishing you all and wherever you are Happy Diwali Celebrations!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Explanation about what DIWALI is about:
(my best friend in India told me some years ago)
Each religion marks different historical events and stories.
Hindus celebrate the return of deities Rama and Sita to Ayodhya after their 14-year exile. They also celebrate the day Mother Goddess Durga destroyed a demon called Mahisha.
Sikhs particularly celebrate the release from prison of the sixth guru Hargobind Singh in 1619. But Sikhs celebrated the festival before this date.
In fact, the foundation stone of the Golden Temple at Amritsar,
the most holy place in the Sikh world, was laid on Diwali in 1577.
The founder of Jainism is Lord Mahavira. During Diwali, Jains celebrate the moment he reached a state called Moksha (nirvana, or eternal bliss) .

A Sonnet about all these happy lights celebrations, as I pray to the Lord Almighty:
i pray to Thee for the happy nights-be
may they celebrate this happy lights´feast
the festivity of warmth, utmost glee

i thank God Almighty for this possibility….

Wishing you all and wherever you are Happy Diwali Celebrations!

After reading this I have searched in internet and known a little about this festival. Your poem is very lovely and informative. A new chapter is introduced by you. Let us celebrate this Indian festival of light.
