A Poem Poem by Valsa George

A Poem

Rating: 5.0

As I wondered what I should write
And floundered in my own confusion
I thought – why not write about poems
That set me thinking what poems are
A poem could be anything, we know
At best it is distilled thoughts put into rhyme
Or a moment caught in time
A window glimpse into the world
An engrossing passion’s ardent curl
A snap shot of scenes from Nature- wild
Or a slice of life, birth or death

Sometimes it could be a yearning
Or an image long hung on a pole
A thought turned inside out
Or the emptying of a mind about to spill
It could be the liberation of a fancy
For long held in thralldom
A gnawing pain, long suppressed
Or a secret, never divulged

As I pondered over the subjects’ enormity
And a poem’s vast scope,
I asked myself- ‘Why hesitate? ’
Soon I felt a stir inside,
My thoughts broke loose
And a terrible block lifted off my head
My silence became audible
I embroidered these thoughts
Into the pattern of a poem

Here it is before you, have a look at it
Will it annoy you or will you enjoy!

Writer's block can play its dirty tricks on anyone anywhere but not when the writer is Valsa George. She can write even about a grain of sand. This time over it is about 'Poem. The subject has been treated with utmost care and precision which reflects the mastery of the poet on fer craft. A small quote will suffice: It could be the liberation of a fancy / For long held in thralldom /.....I embroidered these thoughts / Into the pattern of a poem.

In your pondering mind you seem to have a let the boll go rolling within the poetic court and played all kinds of shots like a champion. We from the audience enjoyed the game thoroughly. Hard to think of a shot not played. Well played Champ!

At best it is distilled thoughts put into rhyme Or a moment caught in time.................. i love rhyming in poems; that is what i heard as a child, but now i sometimes read a non-rhyming poem which 'beats out' many rhyming poems i've read, including some of the best rhyming ones. Or the emptying of a mind about to spill” I ‘love’ this line. :) I will, I shall, I have ENJOYED it …………..immensely! :) bri :) now it is ready to join other favorites in MyPoemList and join some in the November, Section B, showcase for PH poets on my PH site [for poems over 12 but less than 51 lines]. thanks, Valsa. bri :)

Whether it's good or bad, exciting or gloomy - to express that feeling in a poetic form with rhythm and rhyme itself is a poem. Very true and enjoyed the detailing.

I enjoyed it. What's more.. your lines made me comfortable with the thought that my writings at least fall under this poem's blessings. This is supportive Valsa.. Thank you. I just cannot imagine from where such lines crop up inside your intelligent brains and beautiful heart..

A rose petal can break a stone. When you feel your mind is blocked just search beauty even if it's a lotus sprung in the mud................................

Many poets have attempted glorious definitions for poetry. Here you have given us many at one place like a cascading stream. An ornamental chain of brilliant pearls. (10)
