परदे के पीछे
मौलाना जलालुद्दीन रूमी
हिंदी अनुवाद: रजनीश मंगा

क्या यह तुम्हारा ही चेहरा है
जिसने उपवन को रौनक बख्शी है?
क्या यह तुम्हारी ही सुगंध है
जिसने सारे उपवन को मदहोश किया है?
क्या यह तुम्हारी ही रूह है
जिसने इस छोटी सी जल की धारा को
बदल दिया है मदिरा की इक नदिया में?
तुम्हें ढूँढने यहाँ सैंकड़ों आये थे
मगर मर गए तुम्हें खोज न पाने पर
इसी बाग में
जहाँ छुपे बैठे हो तुम परदे के पीछे.
मगर ये पीड़ा उन लोगों की नहीं समझना
जो आये थे यहाँ प्रेम की भीख मांगने.
पता लगाना यहाँ तुम्हारा कठिन नहीं था.
क्योंकि तुम हो व्याप्त यहाँ की खुली हवा में
और व्याप्त हो मदिरा की इस नदिया में.

Behind The Scenes
by Mewlana Jalaluddin Rumi

Is it your face
that adorns the garden?
Is it your fragrance
that intoxicates this garden?
Is it your spirit
that has made this brook
a river of wine?
Hundreds have looked for you
and died searching
in this garden
where you hide behind the scenes.
But this pain is not for those
who come as lovers.
You are easy to find here.
You are in the breeze
and in this river of wine.
