We dear Pakis and the hapless goat,
Wide eyed drift in the same old boat.
We, men in the street and you! turncoat;
For whom we struggle and cast our vote.
Who prints some paper and signs the note.
Bleeds us white and clutches our throat.
We save and scrape for a whole long year,
Every time around the Eid seems near;
We clench our teeth and cring in fear.
We have to feed and kids to rear.
We dear Pakis and the hapless goat,
Wide eyed drift in the same old boat.
This goat is done in the name of GOD.
While pain and suffering ride rough shod.
Its been said that even the angels nod;
Barefoot pattering we fear the rod.
The preacher says its good for us;
Scares our wits by the fire and truss.
No easy answers for the sulking morass.
While care and plenty for another class.
We dear Pakis and the hapless goat,
Wide eyed drift in the same old boat.
Muslims we are and do go along.
See the pens that we Pakis throng.
The spirit itself is not a thong.
But do we hear the slums' sad song.
Don your best an' flatter your beau.
Indulge and laugh with the selected few.
Guzzle down drinks with the BBQ.
Eat your fill but know what's due.
We dear Pakis and the hapless goat,
wide eyed drift in the same old boat.
Everyone loves new clothes to wear.
Gifts an' sweets for the near and dear.
Want no pain no load to bear.
Need some money to smile and cheer.
We the trodden rank and file,
Always told of one extra mile.
We too need lady luck to smile.
The revelry and meat to last a while.
We dear Pakis and the hapless goat,
Wide eyed drift in the same old boat.
AA dear you wrote thiis poem and made me to think about the people abroad, how they are living? but more teasing for me is the issue that we are made goats not by any body but by our ptrons.good and great job tahir.
Beautifully writ Tahir, when i saw how long the poem was b4 i read it i immediatly thort i was gonna be bored to death, but as soon as i read it i wanted to read more and more. some parts are very sad but they grip you and make u sympathize and understand. Theres a lovely flow to the poem with lovely ryhming. Thank you for your comments on my poems though i dont quite understand what you were trying to say about 'The Path' sounded like you were saying This site isnt the right place to share this poem that its too religious? I found that quite insulting as i think poems about any subject are welcomed here! And i dont believe my poem was religious at all! I just simply wanted to share how two completly different people walking on different paths can share the same path and walk together no matter how different they are.
I think the next generation may also nod their heads and say, 'yeah, it's still true'. We kill ourselves trying hard to keep up with traditions, beliefs, social acceptance forgetting reality is the mistress of the day.
every country has their own culture., they differ in their rituals, prayers, customs, beliefs and others.offerings are always a part of sacrifices..your prose is beautiful, it gives information on how muslims do their traditional yearly participation..grace
a poignant write doc........... heart wrenching.........may god bless!
I have a lump in my throat, this is no sentimental stuff though, questions traditions followed blindly, at times out of fear and superstition, compassion for those who can't make this sacrifice in the name of God.you have subtly touched on so many things including politics. you write with such flair, tragi comical at times even on serious themes you choose. an excellent write, Saadat. sorry for coming in late. Mamta
liked this poem, celebration is only for those who have a cause to celebrate. Otherwise most of us only wear the mask of joy to hide our inner turmoil.
a very excellent poem friend.. THE Eid and all what happen during is expressed so well..may be you can post it again..it is truly so expressive..
the refrain-culture specific-added depth and did wonders to the poem...good show, doc! a universal situation though...

I would like to translate this poem
Great poem I felt a tear as I read about the place I want to be so much pain & sorrow in the word i'm just glad that those who suffer the most now & are given the most tests they will be rewarded by Allah on judgment day.
