Guru Nanak Dev- The Eternal Teacher Poem by Rajnish Manga

Guru Nanak Dev- The Eternal Teacher

Rating: 5.0

He has shown us the path of love and compassion
He reignited the deflated flame of faith
In the heart of the masses in a land
The cross-section of which he traveled far and wide
And showed that God is one
He is omnipresent
He is Almighty
Nanak declared that each and every individual
Was equal- not superior or inferior
Irrespective of his status in the society
One must not be a slave to false religious practices
What he said is true to this day
And his words still hold good-
'God created light of which all the beings were born
And from this light, the universe came into being
so who is good and who is bad'

You do not have to be the same religion as Nanak Dev to appreciate his teachings on God and mankind. The guru's teaching is eternal and universal.

each and every individual... equal rajnish, this past week i sat with colleagues at lunch, and guru nanak came into our conversation. i knew of, but little, of him. a math teacher at the school, from india originally, explained for me and others present that the essence of the guru's message was what i have quoted above from your poem. it makes me think of jesus' words from matthew 23 in the new testament. in the passage he is speaking to his disciples. here is how it reads in the message rendering of it: Don't let people... put you on a pedestal... You have a single Teacher, and you are all classmates. Don't set people up as experts over your life, letting them tell you what to do. Save that authority for God; let him tell you what to do... this, it seems to me, echoes the opening chapter of the bible, that humankind, male and female, are created in God's image. it is good to see this equality affirmed. thank you. glen kappy

Thank you very much, Glen, for sharing your views on the subject and putting up a wonderful critique on the poem. The analogy in the words of great Spiritual Masters should inspire all human beings to co-exist in the blissful world of equality, love and compassion.
