जीवन, विश्वास करो, इक स्वप्न नहीं है
अंधेरा इतना नहीं है जितना वीतरागी बतलाते हैं;
अक्सर सुबह की हलकी बारिश से
एक खुशनुमा दिन का अनुमान लगाया जाता है.
कभी कभी निराशा के बादल दिखाई देते हैं,
परन्तु ये थोड़े समय के लिए होते हैं;
यदि वर्षा आने से गुलाब निखर उठते हैं,
तो उसके गिरने की चिंता फिर क्यों करना?
जल्दी से, ख़ुशी से,
जीवन की उजली घड़ियाँ बीत जाती हैं,
कृतज्ञता से, उमंग से,
आनंद लीजिये उन सब का जो उड़ती जा रही हैं!
क्या होगा जब अकस्मात मौत सामने आ जाये
और जो हमको हैं सबसे प्यारे उन्हें छीन कर ले जाये
क्या होगा जब दुःख की जीत दिखाई दे
हाथों से उम्मीद का दामन छूट रहा हो
तभी खेलती दाँव और फिर पलट के आती,
अविजित, जिसे पहले परास्त कर दिया गया था;
अभी भी वो उड़ने को उद्यत है अपने स्वर्णिम पंखों को खोले,
हमें साथ ले चलने की इसमें अब भी है ताकत.
पुरुषार्थ से, निर्भय हो कर,
इम्तहान का दिन आ जाने दें
शान से, विजेता की तरह,
ख़त्म कीजिए साहस से इस मायूसी को!
