Never-Changing Hills
All day I love to walk among these pines
and smell the fragrance flowing from the trees.
A carpet underneath holds twigs and vines;
I could lie down and take a nap with ease.
no phone interruptions
no highway noise
perfect peace and quiet
swaddled by the breeze
These mountains haven't changed since I was born,
nor in my father's time, or so he said.
I'll stalk these hills until my body quits;
all day I love to walk among these pines.

This poem took second place in Contest #9 of the 2020 National Federation of State Poetry Societies Contests.
The subject was 'the natural state' and required form was the dorsimbra.
I had never heard of a dorsimbra before, so I had to look it up.
It was invented by three poets who named it after themselves.
Created by Eve Braden, Frieda Dorris and Robert Simonton,
the Dorsimbra is a 12-line poem consisting of
(1) a quatrain of iambic pentameter rhyming abab
(2) a quatrain of 'short and snappy' free verse, and
(3) a quatrain of blank verse (unrhymed iambic pentameter) .
The final (12th) line is the same as the first line.
The poem is published on page 32 of the book
Encore: Prize Poems 2020
Excellent poem, and photo. I wish more people appreciated and fell in love with nature, perhaps then they wouldn't trash it. Great work Kim.
Such a beautiful poem, dear Poet Kim. How wonderful to walk along the banks of this river lined with tall pine trees, I can feel the fragrance. Top stars for this superb poem.

Great poem and picture, as David said. I never heard of a Dorsimbra before, but I like it.
