Newton's Law Poem by Bharati Nayak

Newton's Law

Rating: 5.0

Newton's Law

An apple falling
Before Newton's eye
Law of gravitation discovered
Had there been
No apple fall on that day
Human history
Might have been different.

I opened a page
Something flashed
A book and a poem
Like an apple, it is a moment's intuition
It is a calling
It is a gravitation
Something to discover
Something unique
Which is there
In the universe
The power
The gravitation
That is within you
Finds an outlet
To be part of the universe.

Hi Bharati, It is said that the story about apple is fake. Never mind. But I do not agree with your lines, Had there been no apple fall on that day, human history would have been different. Apple or no apple, theory of gravitation would have been invented by Newton, for it is a natural sequel to Newton's laws of motion. But poetry is poetry and I respect the poet's wisdom.

Like an apple gravitates towards the earth, you are attracted to the Almighty by the gravitational force of self-realization...it is my perception.....thank you for sharing this poem...

This is a poem of Bharati's Intuition. It's about that EUREKA MOMENT when a knotty problem is solved in a flash, or it could be an emotional impasse is suddenly overcome, or an idea magically appears just when it's needed. These are things your poem suggests to me by its use of the Newton story of discovery. I love the movement of this poem from Newton's experience which is the paradigm to many other circumstances. You name some of them: A MOMENT'S INTUITION, A CALLING, A GRAVITATION, etc. It's amazing what a big role discovery plays in our lives! And you one last discovery for the closing lines because this habit of discovery humanitypursues makes us truly PART OF THE UNIVERSE. You imply our lives are much larger than we thought.
