I blow my nose -
a lengthy sonorous vibration
tapering off in a foghorn exhalation
and a moment,
a lapse,
of quiet
chased away by a squeeking release of pressure in my sinuses
which eases off
like a floorboard creaking
as if some heavy figure, perhaps the mythic snot monster of yore
has taken a laboured step
across the hardwoods of my brain,
leaving a book of poems face down by its steaming cup of coffee
and even now is squinting out the window
to see where that rumble came from
Not to mention the stopped up ears, the bloodshot eyes, and the ringing in my head! ! Wow, CT, poetry comes in all forms, but I am not sure that I ever thought that I would be reading about The Snot Monster! Off the wall funny! !
Break out the Menthol Crystals and inhale - is that clear now! ! ! Horrible complaint, Sinusitis, it isn't just a blockage in the nose, it blocks the whole head. Great write on something medical, nice change of subject. Love and hugs Ernestine XXX
''...perhaps the mythic snot monster of yore has taken a laboured step across the hardwoods of my brain...'' Yore snotmonster didn't lessen any of your wordsmithing skills Chuck! And you've reminded me, I haven't had my morning coffee yet! Rgds, Ivan
Fun imagery and great description in this animated tale of snotty misery! You sure know how to grab a prosaic event and make it anything but... Great foray into (mostly) open verse, Chuck! Est : ]]]
I can't stop laughing. I have never before in my life read so poetic a rendition of blowing the nose. This poem is sort of my mascot; I am famous for blowing my nose and always carrying a kleenex; so that my loved ones must knock it out of my hand if they want a caress, LOL. Anyway this poem really reminded me of when I am very sick and the stuff just doesn't want to budge. Sad as it sounds, this has be put in the favorites; there's just no way around it..(smile) . Besides, the Significant Other always says I secretly have a trombone hidden inside my sinus cavities.
Ha ha... I had to laugh at this one. Am prone to a touch of that myself (though without the sound effects) .... Your poems always make me chuckle, Chuck! Tee Hee. HG: -) xx
I'b had a code in by node for dayd now. Ez
Snot bad at all! Love the imaginary snot monster that lives inside your head, coupled with the creaking floorboards it gives this poem a sinister or should I say sinuster feel of evil lurking. A vivid portrayal of such a heady ailment. Justine :)
