'Stop Picking On Me! ' …..[ Man Meets Nature, Close-Up; Humor? ; Very Short]

Rating: 5.0

I woke up, on my back, staring at the sky,
to find a vulture staring back. I knew not why.
Of a sudden, it hissed, flapped its wings, did NOT fly.
I said 'Shit! You're a vulture', and it plucked out one eye.
Just ONE eye, mind you, but it still ….made me cry.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
i was taking a walk in the country, bird-watching, and among the birds i saw were several turkey vultures soaring high above me [not TOO close above me]. they are good scavengers, eating roadkill deer and other creatures lying around waiting to be eaten. one picked a dead mole from our backyard recently. i don't know how/why the mole died, but i'd seen it back there earlier that day. it carried the light-weight body away, held by the bird's beak. i've also seem them pick at a dead opossum in our backyard. nice sanitation experts!

===========================
added August 3: in response to a couple of comments i received, mentioning 'carrion', i have written a postscript.

The vulture, i guess, THOUGHT i was....carrion,
and helped herself to some........tasty 'take-out'.
But she may be sorry she did, and I'll tell you why:
she wears a patch now; I learned 'eye for an eye'.

Enjoyable...entertaining..... I see the image in the fine imagery you drawn.. Is it to mean the following? .....: There are some unnecessary growth in our physical body as in the environment there are some rotten things....and there are some agents by in the form of 'vulture or crow or raven'.....but there is no such element or agent to withdraw or collect the viral growth that defects our mind to rotten it... I may totally wrong....I guess....I try... Thanks.

[ I will fool PH; ha ha.] If YOU search for a poem Stop Picking On Me, you should find two basically identical poems: i think my spacing and PH's habit causes them to be existing separately. They each have comments. bri ;)

Eeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwww! ! ! ! I keep flinching from the image this poem has planted in my mind's eye [eeeeeeew! ! ! ] and the thought of that eyeball being plucked [ARGH] has me bolting for the nearest powder room. I know these birds perform an important service for planet Earth but oh how ugly their job is.... and how ugly they were created. Eeeewwwwww- -that title Stop Picking On Me is so gruesomely perfect........ eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwww! Your poem still manages to be funny despite the horror of an eye being pecked out!

Hope it left your good eye intact. Reading it another pic came to mind ' Bri on operation table getting eye treatment' Thank God it is a good Doc by his side! I am sure you would find humor in that scenario too!
