Would that there would be a world
in which our Fathers, Brothers, Sons, and Husbands
would never again have to go to war
against other Fathers, Brothers, Sons, And Husbands.

Would that there would be a world
in which our Mothers, Sisters, Daughters, and Wives
would never again have to go to war
against other Mothers, Sisters, Daughters, and Wives.

Would that there would be a world
in which nobody
shot anybody
anywhere.

In just a few lines you capture the essence of true humanism, war serves our animal lusts, but peace learning to coexist brings greater enlightenment for higher living. Another wonderful Susan Williams Poem!

Susan, Google's note said that 'would', as used by you' is an 'old-fashioned' use, with a different meaning, meaning 'wish'.
I won't argue against your 'wish'. I looked up 'would that' and found this: ' The form would that is effectively the same as wish that or would rather that.'

Profound, we all want this world to become like what you think, may be our collective efforts will help our offspring to see and dwell in that world. Let us hope for the best. Thoughtful poem. Nothing less than Full stars.
