My Mother, Me and the Torn Saraswati picture

What value that small incident holds for me? It was etched in mymemory.A small child I was.I drew a picture of Saraswati(Goddess of learning)in my rough copy.It wasa hard laboured drawing for a small child and I marvelled at its beauty.

Being proud of my talent, I showed it to every body. But one day, my mother

wanted a piece of paper.Busy in other works she tore a piecefrom my rough copy

andunknowingly she had torn a hand from my Saraswati picture which I had drawn so painstakingly.

When I discovered the torn picture I flewin rageto find the culprit.

My mother was in all apology for the mistake she did, but it did not cool me down.

Stamping my feet I askedwhy she did not care to tear paper from my notebook.

Then I wanted to show her my anger. From my note book I tore off the whole picture.

My mother did not show any emotion as she knew it was but natural for meto be angry.

Not being satisfied, I tore the paper into small pieces and threw them all around the house.I was cooling down after stamping my fury on torn pieces.

Discovering the dirt and the element of short temper flying here and there

my cool Mom came rushing from the other room with a broom and started beating me

without a question or without speaking a word. I knew why it was.I stood there like a stone, not telling a word further and promised to myself not to show off my anger ever.

A very sensible story but I don't feel it's true because I have discovered a generous and great mom in your wonderful poem, " I am in my mother's eyes'..Anyway, there is a hidden message in this perceptive write! Thanks for sharing......10/10

WOW! A coolest poem I ever read, dear poetess. I like this very very much and such a pity the poem comes rapidly to its end before I realized. Truly a very entertaining poem and so nearest reality. In between the scene, I must tell you that my second son has so much drawing talent that he has drawn 3 books full of cartoons and drawings of all actions he thought or had watched the scenery, a.o. about ships at sea during war-time. He loves war scenes. Now I still have his drawing books.

A 10++++ for the gorgeous story-poem and ToMyPoemsList. All three sons can draw, but the second was the best.He inherited that from me and I from my late father. Thank you so much for sharing your impressive story-poem, dear Bharati poetess. God's Blessings for you and your wonderful family.

In our times, getting a beating from mom by a broomstick, a handle of a hand fan made of palm leaf and stalk, or simply a slap by her own hands depending on the gravity of the offence, was quite common. Both of your mom's reaction was right- first for admitting her mistake and apologising for it, then disciplining you in a stern manner for your mistake. Of course, your reaction at the extreme point was also right. Over all, a nice poem that tells a story with a message.

Hey, Bharati! It was interesting to read this and see the passion in you expressed in this way. For me it explains the passion you’re able to channel in your poems. Hoping you’re well in every way, Glen

Dear poetess Bharati, I have read and reread again for so many times, it IS because my dear Mom had never beaten me like here in the poem, but I think for raising a child this is the best way, since you expected that reaction of your dear Mom. Now I understand that the name Saraswati of the goddess is in your name either. I regard this poem still as loveliest, with a tinge of humor and it shows the responsible Mom of you. This punishing belongs to correct raising kids.

A very interesting incident from your life beautifully portrayed! Your reaction was so natural! I can picture the whole scene.... the little girl stamping her feet over all torn pieces of paper and thus quelling her anger and disappointment. Your mother is a mature person, I feel. She expressed her apology over the inadvertent mistake, but later, on seeing your anger going beyond bounds, lost her calm and decided to discipline you like a responsible parent.

This kind of incidents often take place in our homes. How much we are considerate to our creations may not be conceived by the other members of our family, sometimes pushing us down to a deep trench of depair and pain. But it is our duty to spare them from our fury created by our pain..10
