Flower 13 - The Red Spring Flowers - Poem by Dr. Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

When Spring makes her graceful appearance
Like a pretty maiden,
Making her presence felt like a model,
Mainly in parks, lakes and gardens,
It's like Miss Spring walking down the ramp,
With style, gait and poise;
The flowering plants,
The flowering trees,
Greet her with the warmth of sunshine,
Like a burst of applause from the audience,
The trees and flowers radiant with joy
Embrace the Lady Spring with love.

Look at these bright red blooms that trail the brims
Like little charming fairies waving their dainty wings.

WHEN an actress walks the ramp all whistle and clap even truants bow what a lovely one walks about like a flower on Time's floor a rosy flower a white lotus all in a garden of dreams and all adore she smiles and thos wild kisses so many cherish not knowing how many want more she simply wlks the floor such is the manner in which you compare an actress or actor walking though the air above all and passes by throwing flowery kisses all want more she is adored and smiles as she flies (Report) Reply

Hi, Geeta! I commented on this poem when it was chosen as Poem of the Day and wonder why, as I check it now, it doesn’t show up. That day, when I wrote my comment, I found this poem more refreshing and edifying than the other two posted with it. I like the extended image of spring walking the stage as in a fashion show. Hoping this finds you well in all ways, Glen (Report) Reply

Hi Glen, Nice to hear from you. I just checked in my comments, i could not find it. But i do remember seeing it. I replied too. Wonder, where it has disappeared. No worry Glen.
Happy to see your comment once again.
Your words are always a learning and an inspiration for me. Thank you so much Glen.

wow! 100 comments! but i deduct the 50 which i think Geeta typed! ha ha. she may type a response to one or all or none of my comments, but i probably shall not be back, at least not to look for them; perhaps others will be interested in how she responds? i'm interested but just don't return to look at them. i send all my responses, ......to comments i receive, ..........as messages which include the copied and pasted comment(s) . bri :) (Report) Reply

    Hi Bri,
So good to see you on the top of the comment chart.
Just cannot express how pleased i am!
When you get 50, the least courtesy demands you give back fifty with humility and grace.
So, the number becomes a full 100! ! ! An auspicious number! !
Now, that you have walked down the ramp, Miss Lady Spring is nodding and smiling with glee. :)

(continued) .....................overall, it is a nice walk in the springtime! i can picture Geeta dancing down the runway/ramp now! Thanks.

    Bri, you are so funny!
Its lovely to dance down the ramp. I might do it.
But dancing down the runway......no, no, no.....that's outrageous!

Before using the word 'brim' i did check up the dictionary.
But then, i could not think of a better word than 'brim' to match and rhyme with the earlier line. Also, brim gave a sense of brimming - abundance! So 'grammar' was over ruled and the 'feeling' prevailed. Hope, this is a reasonable explanation.

  • Bri Edwards (4/18/2018 7:55:00 PM)

    some favorite lines:
Greet her with the warmth of sunshine,
Like a burst of applause from the audience, .........now to worm my way back through the radiant garden and back to finish reading this poem! ! ! such a long photo! ! ! to MyPoemList. i don't know what trail the brims * means. i could more easily understand if it read: brims ** the trail, and i would wave back at the fairies! !
..see my next comment section re brim. (continued) ..

The line 'like a burst of applause' occurred spontaneously. As a dancer on stage for so many years, the burst of applause rings in my ears all the time.
Thank you so much, once again, for your wonderful analysis and appraisal of my Lady Spring..

  • Lantz Pierre (4/16/2018 8:29:00 PM)

Altogether too many similes for my taste. In poetry a simile is like a petal that has fallen from the flower, the connection is plain but the real vitality and beauty has been lost. In a poem I'm less interested in being told what thing is like some other thing as I am in experiencing a thing as a fresh and new object of consciousness that I never knew it to be before. Not what it is like, but what it °is°. (Report) Reply

I enjoy reading Lantz Pierre's comment and Dr. Geeta Radhakrishna Menon's answer.Yes, we all are unique. Our tastes differ. We can live in complete harmony in nature.

Geeta Radhakrishna Menon (4/16/2018 10:36:00 PM)

Lantz, thank you for your honest comment.
God has endowed each one with an individuality. Then, there is the freedom of expression.
Believe me, i am happy with your comment too. India is famous for its spices. Without a chillie in the food, it is never considered complete. You have brought in the much awaited spice into my poem. I am relieved i am grounded now rather than flying in the air in fantasy.

Geeta, this is a magnificent tribute to both Spring and Mother Nature. And a breath of fresh air. And a wonderful diversion from global warming. Here in Toronto, Canada, we're experiencing snow and freezing rain. Instead of, the joys so beautifully portrayed in your uniquely creative poem.
