Freedom's Torch - Poem by Donald Amt

The debt we owe,
for freedom to ask
and to answer.
To say yes, or no.

Our responsibility,
vigilance and action,
to defend and support,
to question and judge.

A casual commitment
portends a casual response.
An erosion of purpose,
of vision, of hope.

Our challenge today;
steadfast not stubborn,
engaged not lazy,
committed not passive.

Freedom’s torch,
our course to maintain.
Our compass, our vision,
steadfast remains.
