Music 6 - Rain And Raaga Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Music 6 - Rain And Raaga

Rating: 5.0

Singing in the Rain
With the melody of Raaga Hamsadhwani,
Swinging in the Rain
With the breezy sway of Raaga Hindolam,
Standing in the Rain
With the meditative posture of Raaga Bhoopalam,
Running in the Rain
With the power of Raaga Megh Malhar,
Rocking in the Rain
With the strength of Raaga Todi,
Dreaming in the rain
With the lullaby of Raaga Neelambari,
Dancing in the Rain
With the rhythm of Raaga Ananda Bhairavi!

A Sonnet

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Hamsadhwani, Hindolam, Sankarabharanam, Malhar, Todi, Neelambari and Anandabhairavi are names of Raagas. Raaga means a specific melody or tune of a song. The Raaga or melody changes according to the moods and seasons. Indian classical music is full of varied and interesting Raagas. Based on this is a poem on the ‘Rain and Raaga.'inspired by the Rains of Mumbai.
As you cannot venture out when it is raining, the best is to sit at home and sing.

Swinging in the Rain With the breezy sway of Raaga Hindolam.... //.... Exquisitely crafted poem with a series of Musical Raagas relating to a succinct mood and time of the day during rainy season. Raag Megh Malhaar and Raag Hansadhwani are very popular not only among connoisseurs but ordinary lovers of music also. Thanks, Geeta ji, for such a representational information in poetic form on the subject.

Finding rythm and notes in every movement in nature is a rare gift. You have amazingly depicted the various RAAGAS of our activities while in the rain. Thank you Geeta Menon
