Price of compassion
[Short Story]

Sun is going under the hills
A silent evening broke by fallen broken twigs
And by chipping birds that return to the nests
Night has fallen asleep in the darkness
Sun is going to climb up again sooner
Another day has come, this noon is warmer at summer
A young boy standing at his well
Looking in to the reflection on the water
Splashes at the center, disturb the calmness by waves motion in circle
The reflection now become like a puzzle, scattered
After a while, after all turbulances quiet
As if memories still intact his face is there again
Thats how he find his strength to be fine and calm
Standing at his only will from late parents
Beside the small cottage under the apple tree
Remembering old good time keep bothered mind free

In a mile of desert that boundary two lands
A trail of footsteps printed on,
Come to the boy a rich man with fellows
'O'guardian boy of lonely well,
We were lost in the desert
We need water to live
We ask your kindness for a night stay
We hope not too much to fill our stomach
Gold coins are yours if you willing to help'
An elder rich man asked with a hand holding a cloth sling

- -[night scene: Imagery]

A fire set up underneath the sky
Merchants enjoyed bread and waters
Then be comfort in a much smaller house than theirs
Yet, still be better than fighting cold in the desert
Sun again climbing without stairs of cloud
Reign the throne higher at noon
Waters in bottles refilled as they ready to leave

[ imagery scene: the lens move from sun to the ground]

Shiny golden coins reflect ray from the sun
In a small cloth sack they covered them
'For you, count if the price is right'
Small hands return all back to the leader
'Perhaps, too little for you young man'
few more bags passed to the boy
He opened but not impressed and he returned all
Again? ...yes and again the bargain never stopped
'How much your heart desires? for a lil boy like you this still not enough? '
The elder man asked before another shout
'Thats all we have now, take it or leave it'
'In our land we could have better things than yours'
Again the boy pushed all to them
He hugged a man in front, elderly man, a leader

'What i going to do with these gold
It wont feed me when i thirsty and hungry
It wont keep me safe if i lost
It wont be anything to buy or to proud of
The price of water is more than your gold
That you can never exchange when you in the desert
But dear Sir, you already paid if you dont know, say the boy
Through the only night you enlighten this home again with laughs
By the kindness as elderly to younger i feel warmer than noon did
Though only a night you cheer me most, it paid me enough'
A gentle reply from a boy with soft voice

'I agreed to help is not because of your gold
The price of compassion cant be bargain by money
I could let you go with weakness, disappointment and pain
But you have returned me a happiness where it was here before
When you treat me as if im your lil child even for a night
You have paid the price of compassion with fatherly love
It more than enough, and more when you returned the hug'
The elder guy smiled and whispered on his ears
As the horses moving on he waves hands
The kind man want to adopt him as his son
But its enough to him if he promise to come
Once in a while
To bring love and laugh, shelter the house again
The price of compassion, humility is incomparable with money

Gold is only a desire in heart
but what make it fullest
Is compassion to another
And the best way to return
Is to love among each other
Thats how we run this life

we can survive without gold,
we will never without humanity

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This new year, i just want to start with something new...i always know that i love to create a short story but i never think to do it and i just bring it here. This time its not poetry, but i just rebuke my mind to talk about something, to bring some value in a story..it might be boring to read, but i feel good to spend tonight time, thinking and composing this work. Maybe it still raw i will revisit it later...

I really think that the world will soon become more aware of the giant truth expressed in this poem. It will be the beginning of a never ending kindness revolution. I like the story, the poem, the music in the text. It is a wonderful poem

Thank you dear, kindness is always easy to do...but maybe the opposite is easier to get trigger...thats why we should always remember some reminder of our need in life. Thanks for great words to me..i really appreciate it :)

Yes! ! ! A poem, a short story, a screen play- never mind the category- -you drew me into your world and that of the boy's. The moral of the story was very clear and valuable in these days of doing anything to get to the top. Well done indeed. 10

A very compelling story, Soul. I kept thinking of that old cliche- heart of gold. You demonstrate that the intensity of great bonding, grounded in humanity and love, is indeed far, far more valuable and profound than mere gold.

YES dear...The great love among people as what you said for sure more precious than gold...nothing to compare to it. Sometimes we just look material as exchangeable, a barter system...but hearts, loves, compassion and understanding is the greatest to exchange...same value to each other, yet greater feeling inside...that magnify what life is about...Thanks dear MJL...thank you so much
