Slowdown Your Pace Poem by Valsa George

Slowdown Your Pace

Rating: 5.0

Hey youngster, where do you scurry?
Why are you in such frivolous hurry?
Slow down your pace to look around
And enjoy the marvels that surround.

Aimless you wander far and wide
And seldom bother to look inside.
Ever be content with what you have
Though denied much of what you crave.

The gift of youth is a wondrous thing
Before aches and pains the onset of age bring,
Feast on the glories, God has set
In goblets filled for man to taste.

Fill your heart with the elixir of love
Champion the cause of peace as your vow
Act in the Present and look up with hope
For it's the magic that fills up every cup

Wipe a tear and bring some cheer
That sure will leave you truly dear
Make the weary feel that you care
And lighten the burden that they bear.

A glow of warmth when borne on your face
Adds so much more to your innate grace
So light up your face with radiant smiles
And let your laughter ring down the aisles.

Nothing lasts ever, it's wise to learn
So why go crazy for so much to earn?
Worldly gains may add up to your fame
But such transient things, your soul may defame!

Happiness resides nowhere but inside
Be vexed or relaxed is up to you to decide
Turn the commonest fare in to a royal banquet
And let little things bring joy and delight!

Rejoice in Life and Nature's bounteous source
Never let passing trifles be your course
Humble yourself and kneel down to pray
For it is God who shows us the way

With all disease and deceit, it's still a beauteous world
And never ever see it as a desert bald!
So slow down your pace to look around
And enjoy the marvels that surround!

Oscar Wilde said youth is wasted on the young - so very true methinks. So much misdirected energy, but that is the way of things as youth lacks the wisdom to go with it. Very good write Valsa.

A very inspiring poem for the Youth of Today who are considered as the Hope Of Tomorrow. The wisdom and insight imparted by this beautiful poem could be considered as MANTRA. Each and every stanza carries that wisdom that we can always put in our heart and serves as a guidance towards the path of life.

Such a wise write for the young..for, especially for youth, there are not enough hours in the day to fit everything exciting in and they tend to miss out on the most important things life has to offer. Or perhaps they don't see these things as important at the time which made me think of this lovely haiku. 'Youth is a flying horse Age slows to a walk on the sand Now I notice sea shells' Forgotten who wrote the above Haiku but life certainly has sped up beyond imagination with the age of cellphone and advances in technology. There are certainly many important beautiful things in this life that require a little stillness and contemplation.10+

Thank you, Simone for your beautiful appraisal of my poem. When I see the ‘sick hurry’ of many, I always feel that they miss out much of the beauty, the moment at hand offers which they will never be able to enjoy later. I love the haiku you have entered here..... so very meaningful. Yes, it is when age makes us slow down our pace that we observe certain simple things which in our blind youth we failed to observe.
