The Night Falls... Poem by Nosheen Irfan

The Night Falls...

Rating: 5.0

When there are wolves to hound
The night falls without a sound
Deepest darkness gulps the day
Blessed are those who find the way

When silence reigns in the sky
A poor heart prays for joy
Asleep are the woods and larks
As a soul on a new journey embarks

A moon rises with visible scars
To each his own destiny, say the stars
This is not your day to shine
Needless it is to fret or pine.

There are many visible scars with moon. Blessed are those who find the way. Shining life is achieved through festivity of light. Amazing! ..10

Hi Nosheen, True that night falls without a sound. When deepest darkness gulps the day, it is hard to find one's way, not doubt. Moon's scars are visible as he rises, his destiny cut out. This is not your day; but why blame it on your stars? Fantastic poem. The melancholy mood is brought out by the choice of words; the subtle rhyming rhythm. And I loved the final couplet: say the stars This is not your day to shine Needless it is to fret or pine. .... which I have somehow roughly trans-scripted above. I do not know whether you have implied it; but love to believe that by the last line, you have intended to say, Why blame it on your stars? . Beautiful poem. Added to my poem-list. But 10+ is all I am permitted to offer.... Would love to read again.

I have never seen the moon as scarred before. If it were for nothing else, thank you for leaving me with this beautiful image; but there is so much more in this piece that is moving. A soul who must make his/her pilgrimage in the night. The reader is left to contemplate why this must unfold in the darkness. Is it from a place of darkness the soul must flee, thus rendering the journey in the night? Has the pilgrim lost the realm of daylight altogether, or perhaps undergone some transformation that makes travel in the daylight impossible? Shame? But we are left with a small sense of hope, that although the wolves are in the forest, we can still commune with the stars who choose to speak to us, small glimmers of encouragement.. A beautiful and thoughtful piece, Nosheen, and you handled the rhyme with skill.

After reading the poem what I felt is although in daytime wolves hauling and dilemma and fear exist it is as good as darkness. It is lucky for one if he finds his way amid these. And at night when all the evils of the day gone to sleep a poor disturbed heart prays for joy. In such a night the poor soul chooses to embark his journey silently so that he might not be seen by the ferocious beings of the day. The moon shining with its glory and scar at night.Surely tiny twinkling stars might like to shine like her. A nice imagery.

'Blessed are those who find the way'.......... Every day may not be a blessed day. But before you embark on a journey, if you are clear of your destination and there is a prayer inside, you will reach your destination, though the road may be bumpy! A profound write.....! You seem to be quite at ease with rhyming write..... Nosheen! Full 10

Rhyming adds a huge burden to the effort in my opinion. But when it works, it is very satisfying to the writer and the reader. Well done.

A short but profound poem. Loved the last thought-provoking stanza with the scarred moon. (10)
