Avant-Garde Poem by Sathya Narayana

Avant-Garde

Rating: 4.4

For millions of ghettos
Maimed mulattos
And chained helots
Came he like a soothing zephyr
As a balm of Gilead

For the Apartheid breeds
And for those green eyed
Who call him parvenu with hatred
He is a whirlwind
An ominous portent

Watchout those shaking billboards
“No entry for dogs and blacks”
Falling one after another with dread
Rising up are new hoardings
Flaunting new hopes and confidence

Usherd in a man in Black and White
Promising colorful days in prospect
For one and all with equal respect
Obama is his name
Reform is his aim

In the history of the world, there comes a saviour to give a healing touch to the oppressed and untouchables.

The first two lines rhyme. There are no more rhymes till the last verse. The last verse is good but needs a change. I do not prefer a mixture of rhyme and no rhyme. It should be one or the other. Otherwise, I find nothing negative. GW62

Dear Sathya, no doubt your poem is well composed. I have nuance from your view, if we were people of ethics and would not discriminate between races, we should not mind about what some arrogant people say or do. I think the word 'hatred' should be abolished from poetry dictionaries. Very sure Obama is good man of white hand and sheer history, he is worth of great respect.

The poem does not talk about Obama. It actually talks about human dignity and equality. Good work.

Sathya, I loved the sentiments and the poem. I lived in SA through the hypocracy of apartheid to the freedom now enjoyed. Obama I feel gives hope to all honest thinking men and hopefully the world. 10/10
