Don'T Fall In Love With Me! - Poem by Geetha Jayakumar

Don't fall in love with me
I am mere an illusion
A tiny part of this wonderful creation.

The moment you start loving me
I will disappear in no time
I am mere a body
Where soul brightens my life.
So, Don't fall in love with me

I am a beautiful maiden
You have given me a pretty name
You can see me till I am residing in this body.
The moment I shed my body
This beauty decays and
I am to be seen nowhere!
So, Don't fall in love with me.

Never fall into love with this perishable body
Which is a part of this wonderful creation
came here just to give only a guest appearance
The moment my part is over
I will disappear in no time.
So, Don't fall in love with me

The moment my soul leaves me
I am mere a perishable commodity
Which has to go into the furnace
where remains will be only the ashes.
So, Don't fall in love with me

Don't fall in love with me.
Love thy soul
As long as your soul lightens up your body
You can see me!

Don't fall in love with me!
Love thy soul
It will never die
It will live much longer than you and me!

Poet's Notes about The Poem

This poem I wrote completely thinking of soul and body. Where body is mortal while soul is immortal. A body without soul and soul without body, one cannot imagine or cannot be called a living being..Both should be there to make you and me means a human being or even a living beings. What I want to convey through this poem is love the inner self as outer beauty withers away in time(age) . I too agree when we look a person, we see the beauty, but don't think that beauty is going to be the same even after years. Where as soul is same, the way you feel it, but you cannot see. Whatever you feel inside is reflected outside. Feeling of happiness should come from within not from outside....Thank you for taking patience to read the notes.

Falling in love, and hurting your nose
Is all to common among us folks
To bend on your knee and offer a rose
Is always a well played out hoax................

Very good write up... Actually love is body falling in love with a another body aided by stupid minds.

I think always there is a quality in someone that attracts others. This force of attraction cannot be controlled. When this attraction comes on its climax an emotional reaction of the same is love. This seventy years old Sanaysi Baba can only say love is helpless and it is a futile effort to advice someone not to love. But your poem is very beautiful and I really liked it. (Report)Reply

Wonderful words flowed in to a poem. I cherish the philosophic theme of poem. your idea in the poem is echoing in my heart. A great way of expressing real love. Very simply love the soul which is permanent not the perishable body. Well done! (Report)Reply

This is such an honest write and filled with the greatest truth of all time. True and lasting beauty is what is within. Our outer body is a shell, sometimes pretty, sometimes not. It is what the body holds hidden inside which defines who we are. A beautiful poem with a beautiful lesson for all to understand! (Report)Reply
