I Spent The Day Looking At Myself Poem by Susan Williams

I Spent The Day Looking At Myself

Rating: 5.0

.
I spent today looking at myself
...what I wanted
...what I could do to get it
and when I spent today looking at myself
...I was not looking at God.
.
.
I spent today thinking about myself
...and closed my ears to His Words
...and closed my eyes to His Works
and when I spent today thinking about myself
...I was not thinking about God.
.
.
I spent today putting myself at the center of the universe
...not others
...not God
and when I spent today at the center of the universe
...I did not answer the door He was knocking upon.
.

Beautiful poem. Metaphorical. We are narcissistic, we think more of ourselves. And such thoughts do keep ourselves away from God and godliness. They make us more greedy, selfish and self-centrex, too narrow minded.

Part 2. One of my favourite poets is Malayalam has written "Anya jeevanuthakee swajeevitham/Dhanyamakkum Amale.. vivekikal"- meaning, the knowledgeable, the wise people shall render their lives beneficial and supportive for others (all forms of lives) and thus make their own lives meaningful.
