If I - Poem by Peggy Dotson

If I tell you I love you
would you bellieve what I say
would I have to prove it to you
each and every day

If I give you my heart
will you keep it in a safe place
hidden from all the hurt and rejection
that I one day may face

If I say I want to be with you
would that change how you feel
would that let you know that
my feelings are real

If I tell you some things
that no else would know
would you understand
that you are in the one place no one goes

If I give you all my love
and you still expect more
then I would have no choice
but to walk out the door

If I give you all that I have
and you still want to go
just be an adult about it
and let me know

If it's true
that I'm open like a book
then there should be no problem
or obstacle that we can't overlook.
