This Graceful Plate Of Food

Rating: 5.0

Oh dear Lord of Universe, oh dear God,
Offering you this plate of food to you first,
By your grace nature has served us food,
Everything is gifted by you, nothing is of ours,
Still we offer you to add positive energy,
In this plate of pure food placed on table,
We offer prayer and pour our vision.

Vegans love to drink soya milk and we too,
Cooked rice is seasoned with soya milk,
Cashew nuts and peanuts are added within,
This milky rice is known as Khiri is tasty,
Many use cow's milk generally in Khiri,
This is served in metal cup with a spoon,
Round brown oil fried cakes are pretty,
These are prepared from wheat semolina
And wheat flour with care and hope.
This cake specially contains sugar seasoned
Shredded coconut inside the cakes and
These are known as Suji-Modaka-Pitha.
From the paste of green gram adding little sugar
Square sized cakes are made frying in oil,
These are known as chandrakanti in South Odisha.
Half cyclic cakes are made from dough of wheat flour,
These are fried in oil and served in plate.

A graceful and delightful plate of food this is,
We inhale flavour of powdered cardamom seeds,
Every pure food prepared in kitchen in God's memory,
This carries calmness and positive vibrations,
Offering this first to graceful father of heaven,
We take with great pleasure a plate of food,
The Holy Food we take is full of purity by God's touch.

Every food served on the table is a gift and blessing from the Almighty. It is therefore incumbent to offer to Him our thanks in our prayer. A wonderful poem that centers on the virtue of Gratitude.10

Your poem accompanies beautifully one poem of mine: Ode to Food and Wine. Food can nourish us, both physically and spiritually.
