He Is Alone Poem by Anisha Nyambe

He Is Alone

he said life there never existed
the silver glint in those moonlit eyes
I knew he was dead even before he started living

a solo artist,
a con artist,
he whispered his way into my heart
of metal glass shards

and my hollow ribs are sorry
that their depths scared him away.

but yet again,
aren't we all meant to be alone?

in our minds,
confined in our heads
and searching for places only we would know.

alone.
those moonlit eyes
he said he was dead and never lived
to fall in love
because he knew that
in death your lover won't lie with you in your coffin of noble

and so, dead in the eyes of future hates,
he remains alone
and he is happy.

alone to feel no pain of loss
no heartache from heartbreak

so, to never find a friend
he confides in the darkness
but otherwise
he is
alone.
