Poem For Leper - Poem by Emily Miller

Leper is independent and caring
He likes to see nature and collect snails
A young man that is not at all daring
Leper likes to remain between the “rails”
He’s too nervous to jump out of the tree
But he enlisted in the war act first
Goes to war so his country will be free
But finds out that he did not have the thirst
Leper adores his cross-country skiing
He imagines things and makes a big scene
But enters the war and ends up fleeing
Goes back to Vermont and waits for Gene
Then to Devon and to help with the “trial”
Finally brings out the truth with a smile
