Bri Edwards Poem Poems

Kanav Justa suggested I share my pizza with PoemHunter friends,
but I’ve found, when trying to send real pizza, my wife’s computer bends.
So you PoemHunter friends will have to settle for.... slices of my thoughts.
You’ll have to settle for “Poetic Pizza” Pieces my mind and pen have wrought.

THE 'STATEMENT':

'Writing a poem is not about bringing some words together to create some charming sentences. It's so much deeper than that. Writing poetry is a bridge that allows people to express their feelings and make others live every single word they read. Poetry is to educate people, to lead them away from hate to love, from violence to mercy and pity. Writing poetry is to help this community better understand life and live it more passionately. PoemHunter.com contains an enormous number of famous poems from all over the world, by both classical and modern poets. You can read as many as you want, and also submit your own poems to share your writings with all our poets, members, and visitors.'

Readers:

This is NOT a single poem written by me. It is a collection of poems, mostly by other poets. I have been putting together usually-monthly-showcases for years. This years' problems on P-H (which continue to a lesser degree) have caused me to miss several months and now I MAY have two smaller (than usual) showcases in the same month, as I did last month in June.
...

Dusk shall soon overtake the pale blue sky & the sun shall 'set'.
Since I submitted NO December showcase, you now shall GET....
....a January showcase in TWO PARTS, with poems I've favored....
....here on P-H and now share with YOU....so they may be savored...

I'm Sorry I Don't Like Your Poem.

I'm sorry, I don't like your poem, but like it yourself if it is your wish.
I may comment on it, OR....I may toss it overboard like a dead fish.
Well you need not like MY poem. YOU decide which ones you favor.
I'm not sorry for you, but sorry for ME...that your poem I do not savor.

In these days of rapidly-spreading same-sex marriages,
when same-sex partners even push baby carriages,
it can be an advantage for a man to have a name like Sue,
BECAUSE if he loves another guy, and they decide to say 'I do', ……
...

Here's a poem for you to steal
Just take it; don't be shy
I'm sure the man who wrote it has
An adequate supply.

My PH friends and other members:

Unfortunately PH 'chooses' to SOMETIMES make it impossible [FOR ME AT LEAST] to submit a poem comment to show up on a poem's page. BUT Bri has some tricks up his (my)sleeve to pass along to you all:
...

In my usually-monthly 'showcases' over the years, I've hoped to make some readers laugh, and/or bring to some a few tears.
I've been pretty 'PICKY', picking poems I felt merited more widespread exposure, hoping to perhaps expand some poets' 'careers'.

Some poems I've not used because I thought they contained 'too many errors', or would be 'too difficult to for readers to 'follow'.

She came home (hint, hint) ** from having lunch with an old friend,
………..and, unable to bring her praise of the ‘new' eatery to an end,
she mentioned seeing ‘clam chowder', with VISIBLE flesh of clam! !
Well (‘after all')it WAS "clam" chowder, so it'd be not beef nor ham!
...

Introductory Poem:

'Time moves on' some SAY, and I too shall move on some DAY! Don't cry, not yet,
because no 'moving day' is yet set. I've had a good life and now feel not much regret.
...

Ok! Though I've more work ahead, the title's done at least.
I've enjoyed reading poems, but NOW I've to create the beast,
which I fondly call my next (usually-monthly) poem Showcase.
I hope it is enjoyed by YOU and causes none to…. ‘loose one's face'.
...

Bri's quest to be a poet-different on P H does survive.
NOW, a fine new idea, for showcases, does, to me, arrive.
In the new month of JUNE I'll display only female works,
and hope, to me, it brings MANY attractive P H Perks.

Into the toilet I just did glance,
&, 'lo and behold', I saw a dance.
Two doodies danced, till they were dead.
They reminded me of old Ginger and of old Fred.
...

Comfortably in my casket I was resting.
Then Tom Allport said: 'arise', [only jesting].
But, to Tom's, and Valsa's, and Stuart's surprise,
I jumped straight up three feet or more. I tell YOU no lies.

[ A Poem-letter ]

Eve sees Ed.
Eve 'eyes' Ed.

Though frog she WAS, she caused headaches....
for old man Clyde …..and here are the 'beCAUSE(s) ':

Clyde pocketed the frog/princess, thought himself sly,

Gather 'round, Children, and Bri shall tell you a tale...
about a Cat which, since birth, had no hair on its tail.
Oh, it HAD a tail, but it was a tail like that on a Snake,
and no hair did the cat's tail have, but still it did shake.
...

I must be crazy to make my "inconvenient solution" known, to YOU, …....for NO FEE.
But, if you really wish to, after reading this, you MAY send your gifts to Bri, that's ME!
Now into a 2nd month of this ‘Comment-Submission-Travesty', SOMETHING must be done! !
I've heard much grumbling amongst the members; I hope none of them have/has ………a gun! !

Today is March 9th. Yes the NINTH! Do you hear?
Here's a record of last comment I've had. Oh dear!

Alice leaves to collect apples for her chickens,
But she sees three deer and HER heart quickens.
They ALL want apples; the plot now does thicken.

It's been days since I received a poem comment, my my! *
But that's ok with me, and now I'll tell you all just why.
I've been a guest of Humboldt County, in their big jail;
scribbling a poem on a police car's window does not fail ….

This Is A New Poem

Nature may be defined as things-of-Earth (excluding humans and ‘their creations') :
Ants - Zebras, Artichokes - Zinnias, Rocks, Water, etc., ….not poems OR nations.

Funny means different things, but mostly I refer to poems which MAY make you laugh,

Bri Edwards [ that's me ] has returned; now I am back.
For five months, this site, my BORING life, did lack.
No, I was not jailed, sick, or lost; ... nor was I ill,
but, believe it or not, my lack was NOT a "bitter pill*".
...

There's a famous poem, " IF ",
but MY poem has a different whiff.
Please don't feel my brain's now too stiff.
Let not my poetic version of " IF " create a tiff.

Pronounce 'Bri' like 'try', not 'tree', my friend.
And my absence is more or less now at an end.
It was no fear of ' Covid ' which swept me away.
Besides, I'd punch that damn virus. That I do say!
...

My New Zealand poet-friend, Simone, I read your poem today,
but when I was ready to acknowledge it, I found I had no way!
I could NOT find anyplace to comment, nor to message YOU, ....
but then I decided to advertise THIS way; I hope my wish comes
...

I've had some people love me. I hope some have loved YOU too!
Some have 'said' they no longer loved me! How could that be true?
It boggles ** my mind that 'that' could, for anyone, ever be the case.
Perhaps my standards were 'too high'. Perhaps they needed 'space' ***!
...

You are the one who polishes my shoes.
You are the one I most like …..to abuse.
You're up all day cleaning and, at night, cooking,
but, lucky for you, you're damn good-looking!
...

You are, indeed, a woman who looms LARGE,
who rides not in a canoe, but on a BARGE!
I should share this rhyme with my itty-bitty wife,
as she bemoans 'fat' people, saying: "Get a life! "
...

I do so hope my worldly belongings will be but few ….
when it's MY time to pass from this world; ‘tis true.
Now, not sure when my "end" will come, I'm nearly …
at the "few" mark.I'm "ready" to go NOW, …clearly!
...

My very good friend, V. George, was told a tale by me "of late"….
(aka "recently") , a story of an event in my life near 50 years ago.
There was a reason the story (about a ditch) , to "V", I did relate.
I'll now relate it to YOU all; pardon me ….IF the relating's slow!

Bri's Introductory Poem:

I had a GREAT INTRODUCTORY POEM, which, from here, did disappear.
It's not the first & won't be the last words I've 'lost'; to lose more I do now fear.
...

My best friend, Saul, and I had worked side-by-side for many years.
Yesterday something happened at work which brought me to tears.
We were working the night shift at the mill, making boards.
THEN I spilled machine oil and he slipped on it. Saul fell TOWARDS…..

Bri's Intro/Introductory poem:

The dearth [ ' A scarce supply; a lack. ' ] of comments on April's showcase...
...

Just for now, try to smile. Please don’t frown!
It’s not so hard! ! Turn that frown right upside-down.
Pretend that a circus has just come to town,
and you’re the 'STAR', ...... a smiling, happy clown.
...

How can one know what makes up a perfect poem, either short or long?
It’s the same as knowing what CAN'T be known: “what’s a perfect song? ”
As soon as someone makes a “perfect-poems list”... and shows it,
along comes someone else who takes that “list”, and in the trash can throws it.
...

ME:

'In the church of my Youth there was a 'Triune God':
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.

Oh!

Of all the seasons to lose one's coat!
At least she's NOT on a channel ferry boat,

I WAS JUST encountering "leisure", .....SO boring!
'Twas while sitting in a 'comfy' stuffed chair (snoring?) .
[I don't know for sure about THAT line-ending part:
"snoring", but I may have been.Ain't THAT boring! ?
...

Ok! "Chide" is a bit strong indeed, but time can "fly",
and I may be ‘away' from PC several days; that's WHY…
I'll at least compose my intro-poem.Then I can sleep …
tonight, knowing I'm not another procrastinating-poet-CREEP! !
