Art Of Self Deception - Poem by Carl Roussell
Your troubles build up.
Rather than give up, you take
A moment for you.
Now you feel that on this day
The chance to find your resolve.
Wrap you hands around
A warm cup of coffee, take
This moment for now.
You are ready, face the day,
Because you might hear your truth.
Your troubles are here,
They're not going anywhere.
Your troubles own you.
Still, you stand to face the day;
The art of self deception.

Carl this is superb. I love how you penned this poem The art of self deception is a great title for it too. So many times our feelings are just feelings and we entertain them without validation. I too am guilty of doing this from time to time. Sometimes thoughts can be so powerful they can convince us of anything. Sitting with a good cup of coffee and having a moment often can put things into better perception of a situation. (Report)Reply
Thanks so much for the comment. Some dreaming is good for the soul, but too much and there is a risk one can lose oneself. I will now have a second cup of coffee!
I suspect that this is the poem inspired by Practicing Poetess's comment on your last poem! You told her she had given your muse an idea for a new poem. Isn't it wonderful how we can help each other out? At least two of my poems were inspired by you, Carl. Thanks again. Please read my latest, " Skinny-Dipping" . Thanks. (Report)Reply
I mentioned in reply to another comment that the reading and commenting on another poem is a conversation that feeds the muse. And I have already read 'Skinny Dipping', you have penned another well written poem!
Reading and commenting on other poems will always feed one's muse. There have been a couple of times when an interpretation of one of my poems was different than intended, and this the led to a new piece; so yes, there is a give and take in the conversation. Thanks for the read and comment.
i feel the mesage of self dout you are a great person and a brillant dad hold on to the belive of the words (Report)Reply
i really like the reply you send good message
Thanks Sharron for the comment. I personally am a realist and know the limits of my abilities, and try to stretch those limits. This poem is about those people who try to jump two or three steps without doing the work, and their world falls in on them. By the way, this is what I try to teach my daughter - success takes effort.
