Authentic Love - Poem by Kelly Kurt

No physical requirements or limitations
Age, weight, beauty, wealth
If part of the fundamental equation
Detract from the emotional essence
Evolutionary, instinctual and chemical responses Initiate
Eyes meet, pulses swell, fantasies flash
Base evaluations are made
Do I have a chance?
It's only later, when familiarity enhances
Mutual concern and appreciation overtake
That the true beauty of the experience flourishes
Looks fade, wealth fluctuates, passion wanes
Sincere love perseveres

A lovely poem on love. True love transcends all other considerations and parameters of physical beauty. It is the emotional compatibility that holds two hearts together! (Report) Reply

    Very nicely stated, Valsa

    1 person liked.
    2 person did not like.

Love and only love, is what stays,
    When all else is gone,
Two is always better than One.

Beautiful poem on love, exact, heartfelt and complete.

What many describe as love, is a flood of chemicals in response to visual stimuli

Lines 6,7, and 8 create a lovely symmetry in this poem. You've brought up the essential elements of attraction and love as well as some of the conflict that occurs within this realm. While age, weight, beauty, and wealth shouldn't stop us from finding love with one another, they certainly stand for other aspects that can make a relationship difficult. How about intelligence/education, culture, ethnicity? While these things should not matter, they affect our personalities, our mutual experiences, our self esteem, our ability to communicate more easily. How can we overcome these things so we can love each other more and better? In light of our recent interest in writing poetry related to inequality, this poem gives me pause. I like that. There are of course many types of love. This spoke of the romantic variety that so often is, at least initially; lust. Friendship is key and almost always precedes enduring love

When I learnt that the famous heart sign thrown around everywhere was based upon the shape of the human buttocks, I felt like an ass (no pun intended) . It's all silly, the way we perceive love to be something magical - it doesn't guarantee a lifetime of happiness et al., but more complications and it is not for the faint hearted. But someone should say that to Richard Gere and Gary Marshal! !

Thank you for sharing Kelly. A very, very necessary poem, whose message should be known by the young and the stupid...
