Blankets. - Poem by Carl Roussell

A blanket statement on a group,
A catch phrase to describe,
A one size fits all
String of words you like to say.

A blanket statement on a group
Keeps you safe inside.
Never face just one of them,
Never see you might be wrong.

*A blanket covers you,
Keeps the body warm.
A blanket statement
covers the mind.

A blanket statement on a group;
I wrote this song to sing to you,
'I know the type you are',
My favourite statement of them all.

*A blanket covers you,
Keeps the body warm.
A blanket statement
covers the mind.

A wonderful choice of words describing many situations unchangeable.
There is far too much hate in this world and it is growing.

Wow! The blanket covers a man while the blanket statement covers and defends a mind.
This is fine inference and logical, too. Thanks, Carl, with many many congrats.

Blanket statement... one size fitting all kind of words
we often use. I even see some feedback of this type.

Thanks for taking the time to read the poem. If I understand your comment correctly, the pronoun 'you' is used to illustrate the individual in the group using language that " you' would use in describing another group. At times, giving the words back to a person might lead to better understanding.

Too true. Some things in life will never change, but that doesn't mean we should try to effect that change.

Thanks. Seeing the individual would be like taking a group photo and cutting each face so it stands alone and then asking, 'Who are you and why are you and why are you here? '

I like how you use the word blanket to convey the poetic message. You make good use of it here and the poem comes through loud and clear in its meaning and power. (Report)Reply

    Carl Roussell(8/7/2019 6:55:00 AM)

Thanks for the reading my poem. I initially wanted to write about a street person I saw and how the blanket kept out the cold. Hearing the statements of other passersby led one to think that they had their own blanket keeping out understanding and compassion.

Thanks for the comment on the poem, which says why poetry can be so exciting to write; the finding a slightly different manner of expression that can reach and maybe move others others
