Bound - Poem by Derek Mikel
See that girl there.
I knew I would see her again.
Introduce myself, as a proper man should.
Tell me your life if you would.
Green eyes and auburn hair.
You always wonder where these feelings began.
Words you say, never really get through.
Yet her smile shows that she approves.
Drink in your hand.
Fire in your lung.
Dance with talk around your thought.
Fake as you speak, hopes just out of reach.
Lost in an ocean of sound.
Floating on the current waiting to be found.
Open your eyes to the dark.
A familiar room lifts your heart.
Life rears its head.
And I will see her soon.
I will see it through.
And she’ll tell you it’s true.
She’ll look at you.
And I will lose my breath.
As I look into the depth.
And she’ll grab my hand.
She’ll bring me to land.
And I will place my feet on the ground.
I will be found.
And she’ll look at me and say…
“In your mind I am bound.”
