His Song For Me - Poem by Hannah Scarlett Weiner
Her smile fades on down
And she says, 'well is this for me?
Is this life everyone brags about
really all that it's cut out to be? '
I can't help but reply
'My dear, I simply do not know.
But if all lives could be like mine,
Don't worry, you've still got time to grow.'
Does she see the smile I wear around?
Does she notice my fingers' always crossed?
As I need to pray and hope
Just to keep her from getting lost.
And she may ask why would I care?
It's because she sinks that grin on me,
she keeps me smiling, keeps me living,
and she deserves nothing but happy.
So she slips that grin back on,
but still, she is not convinced,
To just let all she knows go,
With still worry she hasn't been happy since,
Since those days back when,
Her worry could barely exist,
Well what happened to way back when?
'Come one step closer and listen good'
I whisper to her ear.
'How can you not be twinkling,
not glowing, with all that life has right here?
Stare straight up on a clear night,
and tell me that you don't feel so small,
tell me that with your head against the breeze,
You feel nothing but invincible.
Look into my eyes and tell me,
that you've never been so thankful,
that you've never been so proud,
never been so happy.'
Just look at this smile I wear around
Watch my fingers getting straight
Because I know that with what we've got
We haven't got a worry, babe
And you know exactly why
Why I care that you are happy
It's all because I love you
So sit here and smile with me
