I Had To Let You Know - Poem by Orlando Belo
It has been sometime since I last paid you a visit.
If you remember, I got absolutely wet through.
It never stopped raining all the time I was here,
and it was not a good time to talk with you.
Today is different, spring is here and the sun is out,
and this visit is long overdue.
You are the only one I can talk to about this,
and besides the matter does concern you.
I feel very uncomfortable talking about this,
or any matters concerning the heart.
I have never been able to discuss my feelings,
and I don’t really know where to start.
I’m sorry, but I’ve got feelings for another,
and I feel guilty that I have them.
I didn’t expect a simple hello would turn to love,
and I swore that I’d never allow this to happen.
I know you believe that I’m being ridiculously stupid,
and knowing how you think you would say,
that I should think more about companionship and love,
than talking to a wife, who has long since past away.
I can’t ignore the fact that we were so much in love,
and I still love, and miss you with all my heart.
I had to tell you that my love for you hasn’t ceased,
and in my memories you still play the greatest part.
