Just A Girl Part Ii - Poem by Matthew Kieffer

A pillar of darkness
A tower of light
The city of ruins
The harrowing night

To slay the beast
The child must bleed
To enjoy the feast
The hunger must feed

I live in darkness
Where my heart grows cold
I live in shadows
Where the truth is told

Day or Night
It’s all the same
Cry or Laugh
It’s just a game

The sticky blood
That lay on dusty floors
The guilty tears
Held back by paper doors

You live in darkness
And I know why
To block out the screams
And a child’s cry

The timeless battle
Of love and war
Peace be with you
You are no more

What might have been
Will never be
What happened then
Will torture me

You could have
Would have
Should have
Lived

You are the girl
That they never knew
I was the wind
As your candle blew
