Life

Poem by scott tetreault

And he left it there,
waiting for her to come back.
But she never did.
So he began thinking.
Drinking
But the pain never left.
Crying
So he smoked until it hurt.
Unyielding
It seared through his body like razors.
Excruciating
Then the unthinkable-Cancer.
Unrelenting
He died on a Tuesday.
Alone
And they left it there,
waiting for her to come back.
But she never did
